While I am 100% skeptical about cloud-based gaming infrastructure, I would be insane not to consider that if they got their stuff working and working at a high level, all console makers could be in some trouble. I just think that Sony would shift directly into the software side of things without missing a beat. MS would obviously do the same, Nintendo would likely be the only remaining console maker on the market in a cloud-based future, which would also suck because we wouldn't actually ...
I wish them the best. As I get older and my gaming interests change, I just cannot make myself get excited for an update of something I already beat several times. Just think those resources could have been better used to make a new FF game. I am sure it will draw in a new audience, I just don't think it is directed at me.
Lol Jim Sterling is a smart dude, he provided facts, but if you cannot see how biased the whole piece is I cannot help you. Always better to take and present facts and let others reach their own conclusions. Also make no mistake, he made this video for the clicks and knew he would succeed with the title. More power to him, but I am long past the point of caring about his content anymore. I was surprised to see this article with that video having not even thought about his channel in years.
xX-oldboy-Xx I am not sure anything in what I wrote contains vitriol or hyperbole, so there were and are no knickers in a knot. I am not saying that MS hasn't ever under-delivered, merely that for me, this gen, the X1 has done what I needed it to. Now my life situation has changed a lot and I don't fiendishly play all of my consoles every day like I used to, so yes, for me, specifically me, I was not oversold or underdelivered anything. I got exactly what I paid for. I am sure others ...
That one was always a tough pill to swallow. I think I justified XBOX live during the 360 days by being content with the fast network and download speeds, but yeah, that was a kick in the pants. I was surprised when Sony eventually followed suit with PSN, although I suppose these online networks are not cheap to maintain.
Not true at all. Nintendo, perhaps because they do whatever they want and defy most conventions. Sony, grow up. Call of Duty and games of the Activision and EA ilk were always going to happen. You think Sony would have turned down sources of revenue? You think Sony would be where they are today if MS hadn't pushed them so hard last gen? History is only valuable if you look at the totality of circumstances, not when you cherry pick specific parts in order to tell a story.
Okay I will take the bait. How so? I have an XBOX One, PS4 and Switch. I play the exclusives from each platform on that platform. I play the 3rd party games on my XBOX1X, because for the most part things perform pretty well on that and I like the XBOX controller. I am able to play my older games on the X1, in addition to buying the newer stuff when it comes out.
Nothing any console is offering me is undersold or under-delivered. Perhaps if I didn't have the investment ...
Quite true. MS will be responsible for at least Sony and MS always being backwards compatible from this point forward. loved my first PS3 with backwards compatibility.
Lol I cannot believe folks still watch this guy. He went from funny to shrill a long time ago. Still, it is always easy to point to Microsoft and make them the bad guy, and folks who hate them will watch the video and agree, those that love the xbox will argue the other way. Meanwhile, Jim Sterling gets the clicks he expected with his clickbait video.
I believe in sticking to your guns, so it is in Epic's best interest to double down and keep the games and exclusives coming. Bringing the games people want to play consistently, will win out against people being upset in the long run. The question is whether they have the fortitude to outlast the bad press for what they have been doing.
The only folks who actually know how big of a mistake exclusivity was are the folks who have access to the numbers. I am not sure I necessarily trust those folks, as they have a vested interest in ensuring Epic Game Store succeeds. Having said that, who cares? If you want the game for PC, go through Epic, or wait. Otherwise pick the game up for the console of your choice.
I imagine this is like PC people talking specs. I am sure some folks were very excited about the next gen Sony specs, and I myself am anxious to see how they work out. I will say that this past gen, didn't entirely blow me away, as far as what MS and Sony were brining to the table. This last gen still felt largely iterative, with Sony yet again squeezing more out of their hardware than MS. I am sincerely hoping we see some actual "next generation" features for the PS5 and Xwhate...
I don't think you are wrong about the so-called outrage. I mean does a few articles actually reach outrage level in 2019? I know the Internet makes everything seem more important that it really is, but I am pretty sure the news cycle managed to miss this one. Even a lot of the main stream sites like IGN kinda left this one alone, or at least didn't jump on board. We here are consumers for this media, but given the numbers, the overwhelming community of gamers in the US at least, don...
I cannot say that I blame him. Much of this would have been moot if Epic had actually fully developed their platform to at least be close to feature parity with Steam. Be interesting to see if any of this has any effect, or if Steam is still standing and Epic shuts down a year from now.
One would think at this point, that a solid state drive would be a given. Then again who knows if they will even have external drive functionality at launch. I am guessing MS will offer multiple models and at the very least their deluxe sku will have a 2tb ssd.
I would argue MS has had the pressure on them at E3 for the last several years and they haven't seemed to care nearly as much as the video game media and its audience. Certainly not enough to do more than reinvent terms regarding launch exclusivity types and buy some new studios.
I think it was okay for Sony, but doesn't do anything for MS. For starters, we are still nearly 2 months away from E3. Second, we don't know what the next XBOX will be, but I am guessing surprisingly similar stats for the tech included. The biggest questions will not be answered until we have the formal reveals of both consoles. I would say that Sony revealing the info feels more like something MS would ordinarily do.
Oh I agree. I seem to recall Sony at one time, years ago supporting the idea and MS not. These things are always cyclical any more. I sometimes wish all games were open and we eventually just had one system and could worry about the games.
I would argue that Re7 in VR, is still not as awesome as the many Vive and Oculus games currently available to play. Paranormal Activity and Exorcist are both pretty intense experiences, but I agree VR is where the truly horrific experiences are. Like frantically trying to find the right key and open a door while a killer teddy bear stalks towards you....
Well with the advent of 5G and internet speeds continuing to increase, I suppose it is not impossible that games could move to a cloud-only based system. I will certainly fight it every step of the way, as I like owning my media, my movies and my music are all in my possession and not reliant upon streaming services. The only time I buy digital games is when they are super cheap and I know I will play it, beat it and forget it.
