there are third party games that play best on consoles
because the PC port sucks and devs move on leaving the community to fix it themselves.

Celeste is an indie title. One of the highest rated indie title of the gen.
Bare in mind the >handheld< console is a little over a year old. In that time:
Two new IPs: Arms[unique] Mario+Rabbids
Highest Rated exclusive: Mario Odysee. We'll pretend Zelda doesn't count 'cause its cross-gen.
Splatoon 2: another game with a Unique idea for its gameplay mechanics....
Of coarse a handheld device is not going to compete with a dedicate home console spec for spec.
Between PS XBOX & PC I think anyone who's serious about third party games most probably already own one or more of these platforms.
As you said Nintendo has carved its own niche. The device and its unique software speaks for itself.
Just like other platforms it's not for everyone. Pro & Cons etc..
7 games is kind of daunting for someone new to the series.
I like the look of the combat system.
I love learning new mechanics in game.
It should be fun figuring out how deep the combat is
but first I will play on the default difficulty before taking on the hardest.

on your point, Gears 4 was a solid entry, so long as fans of the series are happy with it.
Uncharted 4 is also the regular formula yet appreciated same with LL.
Not every risk will yield...
Just shows you can do a lot more for a franchise by taking a chance.
Not every game has to be a new IP.
And not every game has to be a generic sequel.
There are so many existing IPs that could use being shook.
