...and in other news, NPD figures for April show the PS3 outsold the 360 in North America. This despite Microsoft spending $50 Million for GTAIV DLC.
A spokesman for Microsoft stated that due to lower than expected 360 sales, and the lack of a sales boost driven by GTAIV, Microsoft is now expected to charge for the GTAIV DLC due later this year.
Well you will get a lot of disagrees. Plenty of people have been packing the servers and it isn't just curiosity. The HAZE demo is good on Easy but it is one of the few games that doesn't shine unless you play on HARD difficulty.
You do realize that Gamer's Day had a booth set up and people were actually playing Killzone 2 and all of the recent footage is gameplay? You know that, right? Or were you just complementing the fact that Killzone 2 looked that good?
@Highdef, that is the best way to look at these comments.
If the game looks good in motion then that is all that matters.
But with that said, you are being a crybaby Bloodmask. PS3 owners have taken a lot of punches on this site from angry xbots entering pro PS3 threads and attacking. Now the shoe is on the other foot. Get prepared as it is only going to get worse. I promise you that. Besides, this isn't exactly a pro Xbox thread now is it?
With the flood of PS3 titles coming this year more and more people are coming on...
The thread isn't pointless. If you prefer to live in a game world where a handful of websites wield influence over perception then that is your business. The rest of us want facts so we as consumers can make a better informed choice. Sites such as Gametrailers are muddying the waters and perpetrating outright lies.
I agree that it is high time that some of these sites, such as Gametrailers, that have been using their influence to affect the game industry definitely need their comeuppance.
That's the entire point. DVD9 is killing innovation in more than a few ways. It limited GTA IV, It limited PGR4 (devs words, not mine) and now as more features, expansive gameplay, tru next gen graphics, etc begin increasing data disk sizes, DVD9 begins to show it's age again and again.
It is entirely the point that the PS3 has Bluray. You act like that is an unfair advantage. Sony was smart enough to realize they needed a tru next gen disc player rather than some after market ...
No it isn't. Stop making crap up to try an excuse the fact there really isn't anything mindblowing this time around. All people have to do is look and they see the same rail shooter they played the first time around.
Epic is in a bad spot. They have to try to convince 360 owners to buy UT3 this year AND Gears of War 2. One more reason 09 may be a possibility for Gears2.
That's it. They shot their wad. They should have dragged it out longer with a few more screens and they could have had a few more months of teasing people about how Gears 2 would look. But that is now it. Game over.
People have to realize that when it comes to making a dent in the PS3 machine that was the biggest rock Microsoft had to throw and all they did was slightly annoy a very big and very mean dog. Top that off with the fact the manner in which they released the footage...
The video is crap. By that I mean this is hardly a frame by frame analysis. It looks more like VH1 pop up video but rather a sad attempt by Gametrailers to lure more people in for webhits. What a bunch of liars.
Where did I say anything about Gears needing to be free roaming? You don't understand the difference between open maps and linear maps that are little more than wide hallways. Gears had almost no maps that were not made up of little more than that. It kills replayability. It is like playing football on a field that is only 20 feet wide.
And before you talk about dfanboys, go back and search through some of your past comments as I did. The verdict? You are hypocrite as there are...
The size of those maps? Put the bong down and step away. You can't play what you are seeing. That is no different than the cardboard back drop of a stage play.
This is how the 360 world ends. Not with a bang but with a whimper. Well it is their own fault for hedging all of your bets on a title that looks no different than it's prequel and brings nothing new to the table.
People are jumping up and down like they have the St Vitus Dance over nothing. But what do yo...
I already own this game. It is called Gears of War and it came out a year and a half ago.
Boy, are there some crybabies out there right now. They are so mad the flagship is getting pummled big time. Well boo effin hoo. I am after the best game ON ANY PLATFORM and I don't believe in rebuying games.
The map size is a deception. 9/10ths of that map isn't playable. It's blurred out textures as a backdrop to a rail shooter. You are stuck on a Disney ride and can't get off at will.
That is because all we saw was a rail shooter. Platforms on a rail with nice blurred scenery. A Killzone 2 or Resistance 2 competitor? Hardly. As I said in the other forum, last time Gears had the football and there was not any defense on the field. They had a free open run. Now they are old hat as it looks largely the same.
And this time there are some 500Ib linebackers on the field that eat offensive linemen and running backs for breakfast.
Gears2 doesn't have the open unopposed market like it did the first time around. I am afraid you are in for a rude awakening from the marketing department now that competition is here. Sporting the hairstyle from Bob's Big Boy isn't going to help either.
Breakfast, the problem is what we saw in the vid was a rail shooter. All of that map is wasted. It can't be used. That's why the nice blur so it doesn't need to render detail textures of the distant view. The rest of the game was one big rail shooter with platforms. Other than a finishing move and taking a Locust as a shield - as if another locust isn't going to shoot ha ha - what is really different? I was yawning before the end of the vid. The graphics look barely different than Gears 1.
No I am not talking smack. If MS doesn't see a boost in sales now it won't happen later. Come September/October time frame, no one that doesn't already have GTAIV is going to give 2 flips about DLC. SO for it to be a benefit, MS had to see a huge boost now. If it didn't come in the first week, it isn't coming. Now MS is going to have to charge for the DLC to make money back later this year. Have fun with that.
