1. This is the CURRENT state of gaming. Where can I go to play FF16 next year?
2. You do not KNOW that that is what MS will do. On top of this, they have made PUBLIC assurances. This would be pretty tough to walk back
3. The basis of this conversation WAS monopolies. Let’s not pivot away from it now that it’s not a provable point.
True…. So let’s talk about the ‘monopoly’ then, which is a situation where there is a single seller of a commodity in an industry market place. What percentage of the market would MS own should this deal go through that makes this a monopoly? Interested in a serious and objective discussion btw

I’ll tell you, when I decide which console to buy a game on, I think about the ecosystem and where I think that game will be able to flourish the longest with the best support. With the spotty Xbox support I only buy Square games on PS. The more Square/PS exclusives the worse Square games will perform over time on Xbox imo
Now you know……. Sony has signed WAY more exclusivity deals than that. And also none of those games have been as relevant in the gaming space as Final Fantasy and MGS, etc.
Nope, to an earlier point, the check MS would have to write would have to be MUCH larger, due to lost PS sales. Yes relationships but that is probably 5 percent of the equation. Corporations are profit driven…. Without profit they die.
I love when people trot out the “Microsoft Started It” did Sony not acquire studios in its PS1 days? Before Xbox was out…. PS2 gen? PS3 gen? So on and so? Then the qualifiers pop up, oh well they never bought a publisher…. Then if the buy Square, well it’s not as big as ABK…. Guys give it a rest, given enough time, all companies will turn your past comments into lies and us all into hypocrites.
May take a little longer than originally thought, but as has been said in the past, the deal will go through. So tired of waking up every day to a Xbox+ABK article. ABK & their employees wants this, MS wants this, it will not hinder competition, let it go. Interested to see what the FTC argues in court on this, if their best examples are from 20 years ago case seems weak.
What do you mean “doesn’t belong”? Switch is the only ‘mobile console’ so to speak, why should I not be able to play COD on my switch? 🤔

how many of those “50” franchises have had console/PC releases in the last 5 years? 10? 15? Freakazoid from the 90’s is an owned IP but I don’t see anyone dying to bring it back. How many of those franchises are actually actively used and profitable?
@ rippermcrip, why? What’s a publisher these days if not a collection of studios? The only reason you probably want this comparison to end is because your favorite company doesn’t have the cash to do the same
This was my first Souls game and man, this game turned out to be one of the greatest I’ve ever played. The gameplay, the lore, the grind, loved it all. Eagerly awaiting what’s next after colosseum.
Hmmm I wonder if this deal falls through does Xbox just drop a small fraction of that same cash on 3-5yr timed exclusivity of COD anyway? ABK actually WANTS to be purchased by MS. I don’t see how this buys Sony any friends at ABK if this if blocked.

Wonder what will be found. This game was great for what it had so what was cut may be interesting. The ONLY thing I wanted more out of HFW was some 100 completion Far Zenith armor! I’m sure if GG doesn’t make this then a modded will on the PC release. Fingers crossed.
