nope, its going on four years. Even by 2010, I think its just too early for a new console with the PS3 just hitting its prime, and momentum that has been building since 2008.
The Video Game Industry is one of the largest entertainment industries in the world. These type of statistics should only be expected.
I do find the increase in social gaming quite interesting.
The roles has shifted this holiday. Now Sony is the one with the price cut, and a new form factor and game lineup to boot.

I do hope to see more innovative games like LittleBigPlanet. We need more fresh titles in this industry as I would hate to see most of tomorrow's games only consist of shooters.
I think it has a lot to do with what the Nintendo branded name is associated with. Sure, they want to be a little more hardcore, but can you honestly imagine a game like assassin's creed being branded by Nintendo on tv?

actually, It was Sony who came up with the slogan to begin with. The fanboys who repeat it simply can't get enough of it.
You gotta admit, though, its a pretty catchy slogan. ^_^
