What if the government hacked into John Doe's computer and found out he had pirated media and software on the computer?

They released a report and local news stations plastered the guy's face all over the world. All the companies he pirated from start suing him.

Does the guy's piracy excuse the fact that the government was sneaking into his network?

Most of us would blame the government and scream at the injustice.

@gamingdroid

You are hilarious.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DATA! Not Sony.

YOU VOLUNTEERED YOUR INFO. Sony did not steal it from you.

YOU USED SONY'S FREE SERVICE. Now you and every jackal looking to point a finger can get lost. Go to Xbox Live, pay your fee, and then wait for somebody to bring down that network.

Nobody is safe online. Anybody could hack into your computer right now regardless of your p...

They illegally accessed user data. Do you not read the news? A few kids were arrested for illegally accessing consumer information from companie's websites or servers.

This is no different. Sony did their job to block the custom firmware for years. They could have taken away access to PSN but then they would have had everyone complaining and switching to Xbox Live. Instead, they protected the gateway and tried to keep gamers happy.

I don't see anythin...

It would be great if after catching these guys, they let us decide their fate.

Sony should list all their social security numbers, addresses, and personal information.

Then list their names and show their pictures.

Then let us vote on how to carry out our revenge. As course, I'm sure they'd just hack the vote too.

Did anyone else think this was faked or possibly leaked on purpose?

Seriously...they stop getting technical in parts when they want you to understand what exactly Sony is failing to do correctly.

drm:off , old linux software, Sony collects a lot of information...I think they leaked on purpose to get gullible people to believe this is all Sony's fault.

Bottom line here...Sony tried to stop the custom firmware by removing the Other OS. They...

Just adding more fuel to the fire. If these guys get caught, we may never know about it. They might not make it to court.

@Capdastaro

You say they are not dumb?

Yet they chat about this on irc? They illegally access people's information on somebody's online infrastructure? I wouldn't doubt for one second that they wanted this to leak so they could use it as propaganda to incite gullible people into thinking this is Sony's fault.

Not dumb you say?

By the way, I've seen a lot of sensational crap coming from industrygamers.com lately.

I won't even bother reading past the initial content here.

I wish this website would be banned from N4G for the amount of misinformation and over-the-top flame bait they put up.

You're so quick to shoot Sony on this one. Sony was providing you with a free service and you have the balls to complain about security?

How about this...you grow up and take responsibility for putting your information on the service in the first place.

I guess Sony was supposed to have some crystal ball that told them when and how somebody was going to try to hack into PSN.

If you think this can't happen to Xbox Live, you're delu...

I felt the same way as you. I went in expecting it to just be another average Mortal Kombat title but the 3D, the new counter break meter, and amazing story mode completely had me stunned.

Good blog post.

@bailoutbenny

You say it's piracy. I say it's availability or advertising. If more people see something, more people will be able to buy it. If you show 10 monkeys 10 bananas, they may all go and get one. If you show 100 monkeys 100 bananas, I'm pretty sure more monkeys will end up with bananas then in the limited 10 monkey trial. COMMON SENSE...not piracy.

I feel you're are not completely honest here.

Nobody is saying developers are creating original content. Just like our language is based on older languages, modern day tech is based on the foundation of earlier stuff.

The word "HACK" in the dictionary usually ends up in the destruction or damage of something.

Yes...these "hackers" do so for their own personal agendas but they are not innovating...only opening up someth...

Hackers don't create jobs. Hackers are selfish and egotistical. They pride themselves on tearing down what somebody built?

There's a lot of people who can destroy but only a few who can create. When it comes to respect, I will always side with those that create.

You're on a gaming forum. If not for these hardware makers, you wouldn't be commenting on the issue period.

Why don't and your hacker friends ACTUALLY MAKE SOME...

First off...that video is the biggest crock of crap I've ever heard.

1) Libraries, friends, and trials are all great ways to read and expand your knowledge of authors without downloading a free copy.

2) The more people that hear about your book, the more sales you're going to have. THIS IS COMMON SENSE...not the miracle of piracy. If he actually put the books out in more countries, he would have probably see the same results.

3) PIRAC...

Ignorance is no excuse. And if you know anything about contracts, in order for one to be valid both parties must be on level ground meaning both must sacrifice something. If Geohot claims he didn't know about these terms or SCEA, doesn't matter. By using the console and by accessing the PSN, he accepted the terms regardless of his supreme ignorance. Even if the judge were to entertain that tacky argument, it would just go against Geohot as he now officially bypassed specific provisio...

This makes no sense. Why do people keep comparing Halo...a franchise that hasn't been good since the first game to Killzone which at least tried to bring some realism to the FPS genre.

Basing anything off reviews is a stupid idea especially when a great majority of them are putting out good scores to keep getting free copies or some nobody site looking to make a name for themselves by berating the game.

I do believe you just proved my point. Not only would online subscriptions fight piracy but it would prevent used games altogether! As for the online hacking, people get reported and banned.

In essence, I can't control what a hacker does to his console, but I can report him/her for screwing with my gaming online. Then Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo are legally capable of dealing with the accused in any manner they deem suitable.

I had to stop reading when I read "shovelware."

This guy doesn't have a clue. I absolutely despise when people waste my time writing something uninformed. How can integrating controls into your best franchises be shovelware????

Perhaps he needs to do a bit more research. I currently own 10 MOVE games and I haven't even finished them all. They're all perfectly capable games and sit as great testament to the functionality PS MOVE provides....

There's a reason why you don't see too a lot of DC Universe beta articles floating around.

Anybody with common sense and/or previous experiences with MMOs would know to keep their mouths shut to the public especially concerning betas.

Why?

1) There's a place for your to vent your frustations...the official DC Universe Online Beta forums. How do I know? Because I'm also in the beta and use them to report my glitches instead ...
