Microsoft was able to knock down just $50 off the 360 in 2007 and the effect showed. NO reason to knock $100 in one blow if your console isn't $599.99 anymore. Of course, the effect might be larger with $100 but they could always just drop it again if it doesn't work the first time. If it works the first time then it would be useless to drop it again.
You can want a $299.99 PS3 but if a $349.99 PS3 sells just fine, then you're out of luck. Don't worry, Sony might be crazy enoug...
I don't know if that's feasible today with the economy in this state, the weak dollar and inflating costs, but if it's possible Sony could keep going from 99 to 79 and then maybe 49 but then again who knows if it's possible to make a profit off of that price.
There's not enough supply for such a price. The only thing that would go down is Nintendo's bottomline. Nintendo is fine with such a price (gamers aren't)

PS3's costs are droping so the losses would be probably the same as they were for the holiday if they happen during spring. First let killzone arrive, then Infamous, and then price drop. Then E3, then heavy rain, then gran turismo 5 and then price drop again. Little by little.

Could a developer "borrow" HDD space to use it as RAM on games? After all, 1Gbit/s is too slow for that, but 1Tbit/s is already way more than fast enough for consoles. I think the fastest communication between components in today's consoles is about a quarter of that, unless we're talking bits and bytes here and 1Tbit/s would be half of the fastest, still fast though. 100Tbit/s on PS5 would be ideal...

Obviously SNES was marginally more powerful because it came out later, but it wasn't significantly more powerful. And come on Sniper, why do you have a Shenmue avatar while insulting Sega?
