I've played Destiny 2 today. Why is it that the only defense some can make for Destiny 2 is to claim that anyone who criticizes the game must not play it?
Destiny 2 is at the worst that it has ever been. The story is all over the place and contradicts itself constantly. The "big cutscene" this season undid everything revealed in Witchqueen, with The Witness not being behind The Darkness and the opposite of The Traveler - but just a better version of Erami...

Destiny 2 requires you to pay $12 to play the seasonal content; Diablo IV doesn't require you to pay to play. Diablo IV also was a complete game at launch while the core of Destiny 2 is still rotten and seasons are there to just distract you from that.
You probably should stick to WoW and FFXIV with their $15/month subscription fee then. It seems ESO's purely cosmetic cash shop instead of charging a constant monthly subscription fee to access the content you have paid for is too much for your delicate constitution.
Actually, #90 on the growth chart is just above the declining point. Again, the numbers are not actual player numbers but calculated by Reddit posts. Any player who quits Destiny 2 over the recent State of the Game but comments on it is still calculated as a Destiny 2 player at MMO Populations.

That is a very manipulative number and definition of what Destiny 2 and MMOs are. Destiny 2 isn't really an MMO and it is routinely crushed on Steam Charts by other online shooters - usually barely making it into the top 20 with only 45K average concurrent players. You are also using an average number that is generated by amount of Reddit users but then discount anyone posting online about how they are dissatisfied with the game. Judging by the poor sales of it on PC, seems like PC players don't care about a 2021 game being "brand new" on PC in 2023. Diablo IV and Baldur's Gate 3 are actually new games in 2023 and their sales reflect that. Sony put zero effort in enticing PC players to buy R&C: Rift Apart. Compare that with the effort Blizzard did when bringing Diablo 3 to consoles years after it released on PC.
Hard to pay full price for a 2 year old game when there are so many great new games coming out on PC right now.
The only thing Bungie cares about anymore regarding Destiny 2 is Eververse. Crucible and Vanguard strikes only get one new map each year and Gambit gets none. The only weapons released this year that haven't been poorly done reskins were from the raid. Pikmin is a RTS that lacks PVP multiplayer and sells poorly as a result. I also find the single player campaign lacking in challenge and replayablity. It is fun to play through once and that is it.
There are plenty of things players are upset about with ESO monetization - the completely optional monthly subscription to ESO Plus isn't close to being one that pisses players off. For $15, you get access to every single piece of non-chapter DLC released for the game since 2014. You also get enough Crowns - the currency used in the ESO store - to buy any set of the dungeon DLC you like so you can play them after your subscription ends.
Gunfire Games also released Darksiders 3 in 2018 and Chronos: Before the Ashes - the non-VR version of their 2016 game Chronos - in 2019. That is the same amount of games that Sony Santa Monica developed since 2010. They definitely are producing their AA games faster than most AAA studios are releasing games. One exception is Insomniac where we are getting the third Spider-Man game in 6 years.
