Its just dedicated servers. Not magic server. If Sony, Nintendo or anyone wants to do it, nothing stopping them.
Sony, EA, Activation already has private dedicated servers. Amazon, Salesfore, Google, MS are in a huge pricing cut wars on renting out servers dirt cheap also.
