I am not that keen on mobile gaming as yet, but I am getting Deus Ex The Fall and will try that on my iOS system.
That's why I say we cant blame parents only - but in the same token - ignorance is NOT bliss
I agree, we should take back the idea that sex and violence is the norm, and be responsible when we have kids that can become exposed to it. I am not saying lets restrict sex and violence, but rather manage who sees it - and that being our kids not having access to it.
I dont think the onus is on developers to produce classy games in order for us to buy them. It is the right thing to do, enuff said. How do you know that a game is worthwhile, and when is it likely that a poor game would be downloaded anyway? Not very likely I am sure. But you do pose an interesting question in that if it is good quality it is worthwhile paying for.
I agree that for most part as kids we did this. Even into my early 20's it was the norm. As time has gone on and my understanding of the industry changed, so did my interest in playing games that I had not bought in their original state. Yes I see it everyday, and I know that it is wrong, but in curbing it developers begin to create restrictions which gamers in turn dont agree with. We cant have it both ways (or can we) that big restrictions are implemented or piracy is accepted? Love the...
I had the same exposure to DOTA but I was lucky to have a good few friends show me how to play. It may seem simple to learn but it really isn't, there is definitely skill involved. At least it was a worthy effort on your part. WD
I use educational games in teaching my son, from colours to numbers etc. I think that the more positively we can use gaming, the better it can be to show the value it can have. I do think that gaming itself provides a benefit in development albeit in different areas of our lives/persona. I don't know if the average person will take to it, but perhaps if it is used in our education system it may benefit the development of students because learning becomes more fun.
I have played alongside some amazing female gamers that would beat the taste out of any other competitive gamer, male or female. I would pay alongside anyone that shows respect for one another, and has the ability to play the game at hand regardless of their gender. Nice write up and I thoroughly agree.
Indie version of WoW or what?
Ironically I just read a news article where celebrities use Twitter shamelessly to earn extra money by posting about products, clothing etc. So yes, I agree...wherever there is money to be made, people will cease the opportunity
Well said, and I believe that I will first try a game before making a call whether a review was biased or not, at least imo.
Sensitive Much Han? My article never says that gaming journalists are corrupt, but rather poses the question: Is there corruption in gaming journalism and who can you trust? And as I always say "In my opinion" I can choose who I want to trust, rather than I must trust a paid gaming journalist. But, I dont believe others also thiink that all gaming journos are corrupt, otherwise we wouldnt be on most sites reading latest news.
I have only to look at the game specifications of games I have owned since 2007 to know how much higher the demand has been on PC. The benefits we as PC gamers have comes with a price. If we get to a point where we can no longer afford to upgrade our PC's then the alternative is surely console, and the Next Generation of them apparently have improved significantly on graphics, even though we all know it will never be better than PC, at least not with the next batch of consoles (IMO).
I think we will find a large debate on what is better. I don't think any PC gamer can give a fair assessment or choice until the Next Gen consoles have been released. I am excited about this.
VR is definitely the way to go, but I wonder what the costs will be.
I 100% agree with you Han - however one must take a social responsibility for one's actions and their effects on those that are the ones being ridiculed or chastised due to religious, sexual and or any other belief or lifestyle that may not conform to that of another. I personally wouldn't support someone with homophobic, racial and discriminatory views due to my own personal feelings on such things. But, that is my choice, as it would be the choice of another to support such a person...
The part where you fight in the cold and have to move from place to place to find fire to keep warm is interesting and challenging.
Simulator games are the bees-knees. From SimCity to Trains. We simulate almost everything now days, no wonder they are bringing adult entertainment to consoles.
It looks far better than I anticipated, and yeah I might get it. I liked (albeit for a measly few moments) CSI crime scene and I think this will play out far better.
Very well put, and I agree. However, where content is inappropriate for the youth of today, I think we should consider them being vital rather than just informative. I don't think there is a grey area, but rather a clear one - we either use age restrictions to "prevent" exposure, or we ignore them. But yes, there are games that don't have sex and violence, but there aren't that many.
