Good stuff. With something like this I'd hate for them to tone it down at all.
The guy who designed that is the creative director on BioShock 2, which is a good reason to look forward to that. There's so much scope within Thief for brilliant levels, though, that I find it hard to believe there won't be at least one absolute stand-out.

As long as it's better than Circle of Doom, I'll be happy. It's still maintaining the same art-style, though, which is nice to see :)
Why would it need to? They're making plenty of money out of it, it's managed to carve out a niche that doesn't directly compete with pretty much anything else out there, and they've made one of the most fascinating player-run games imaginable.
I hate *playing* the game, but I love reading about it.

As EA does PC DLC through the utterly appalling EA download service, I'm not sure I'm surrpised. Maybe they're just giving up on that.
Totally agreed. Far Cry 2 was lovely, but the location got a bit stale by the end.

Agreed. There's definitely art out there, but... well. Comparing it to films, this is an industry where the big Summer blockbusters are pretty much all that's made, and it's down to the indie types to make the stuff that really staggers.
That's not to say none of the big games have been art; I think there are a few examples, and as you say, Heavy Rain might end up being one as long as it doesn't go all Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy. I don't think games are taken seriously enough as ...
