Wow I though this would NEVER happen! Their independence was hugely important to them. Of course, all things in time change...but WOW! Congrats to both of them really. Sony takes pretty good care of its studios and I believe Insomniac will thrive knowing it will have full backing behind them.
This gen is also introducing other standardizations that we haven't seen in gaming too that not even the PC has, due to its open platform nature. SSDs as standard will usher in new ways to makes games. It's going to do a lot more than just shorten load screens. That in combo with near-2080 power, and hopefully a CPU that's up to snuff, will hopefully be another game-changer like last gen was!
@jukins
If this was a USA only issue, maybe. The entire worlds' currency was super weak last gen due to the great recession. Plus, even if the US currency gets a little devalued during these unfortunate tariffs, the economy will still be stronger than ten years ago. Peoples' mindsets on the economy are completely different than they were back then
Our last recession didn't ruin the PS360Wii generation, though. It may have been quite turbulent for certain games studios, but I think as far as games went, it was one of the best generations we ever had.
So is this actual full game purchases because of the front screen advertisements or is it just downloads from the Game Pass subscription? If it's the latter then it's not really impressive because they only make a minute amount off the subscription fees and it's just a download that will probably go away in a couple months. But if it's the former, then that's really good advertising on the Dashboard! Makes you wonder if MS will keep advertising this way in the future for o...
This game is awesome in PSVR! Sets you right in front of an old CRTV in a kids room circa 1990s. Brings you back to the good ol' days
I've only played it solo. Played through most of the main campaign by myself and had a blast! Done be afraid to jump in by yourself, it's definitely worth it
Make a 5.5" PS4 cell phone. The tech has to be there now for the $800-$1000 24-month cell phone plan to output at least OG PS4 graphics. Sure, they'd probably have to keep the controller unit as a separate snap-on piece and maybe be forced to shut down all cell phone functionality to play the games, but that would be a viable all-in-one system right there.
I'd be tempted at least. Cell phones are all dime-a-dozen these days. Someone needs to come up with a new...
I'm now a part of the latter crowd. I was a huge fan of the trophy system when they first implemented it because trophies were integrated in with Playstation Home with virutal rewards. They quickly did away with that, unfortunately. Not that I was a fan of PS Home by any means, but it was a good starting place that I was hoping Sony would let evolve into something greater: perk rewards toward avatars, themes, or discounts off games/DLC from publishers that you earned trophies with. Sadly ...
A year and a half is on the horizon? I wouldn't say it's the worst time to buy a console at all. It may be a dilemma for someone, but that's really about it.
Example:
Option 1: Does one buy a PS4 bundle right now for $250, wait a few years to buy a potential PS5 bundle for, say, $450 (assuming the launch price is $500). Net cost: $700 with a couple games already bundled in, minus any potential trade in on the PS4.
Option 2: Wait a year and a...
Recently, Final Fantasy XV, by a mile. I was having so much fun with it in the open world, then the end came. Was like, seriously!? Worst ending/time skip I've ever seen!
I double dipped too.
My buddy went from 360 to PS4 and wanted to play it, heard it was awesome. Of course I told him it was. With all the upgrades and me never having played it online on PS3, he convinced me to buy it so we could play it together. Turned out to be one of the best competitive multiplayer games I've played!
I remember back in fifth grade one of my buddies secretly installed this game on the computer in our classroom and we would play it every time we had a rainy day recess. The teacher never figured it out somehow, haha
GTX 1070 8GB recommended?! Dang. I hope the 1060 can still put out some decent graphics at 60fps, or the PS4 Pro version can go 1080/60
I'm only a few hours into this game so far but I was hoping this was the game's version of the Old Mill district in Bend. I already love the Farewell, Oregon reference to Bend's original name about 100 years ago: Farewell Bend, Oregon. If you couldn't tell, I live in Bend haha
I can't wait to get home and play this in a couple hours! I don't care what the reviews are saying. This looks like my cup of tea. And, being a resident of the PNW makes this even better. I'm just hoping they showcase some of the great landmarks out this way, since the PNW is so beautiful.
I agree, doesn't make sense to talk about it if it's going to be that far into the future. It's seems that;s also why they stopped talking about games 2-3 years before their launch dates. March does make a lot of sense business-wise, too. Have a great holiday selling the PS4, then launch the PS5 at the end of your fiscal year to get another couple million units out there. All-in-all, it's good for PR for hyping the entire ecosystem.
It makes you wonder if he was talking about calendar or fiscal 2019 for when it won't be released. I had originally figured it would be March 20, 2020 that they release it and have an official announcement in January. I may need to back it up to holiday 2020 if that's the case.
But, they've been working on it for four years now, have the meat and potatoes on the hardware all set, and have accelerated dev kits to studios. So, I might as well just keep my estimate for March...
I'm hoping the next PSVR is a hybrid HMD. Make it work like the Oculus Quest with all of its inside-out tracking and portability but have a jack on the side of it so you can plug it into the PS4/5 to take advantage of the more powerful hardware for the hardcore games. A little different than what they're talking about, but still "hybrid" in nature.
I was thinking along the same lines. To me it looks like a mix of Burnout Paradise (my favorite racing game ever) and NFS Underground. So, a great combination. We'll have to see how the final product ends up now
