Old news; August 25.
As if there weren't enough flame wars going aroung here, they have to dredge old ones to troll more?

...its an RPG with action.
Rather than running battles, you get skirmishes.
The combat is real-time based but with pauses and strategic planning layered on-top so you can override your squad's AI if you so choose.
Looks like there will be some vehicle-based ground combat and maybe even a bit of space combat.
But all that is just to spice things up; the game is really about living out/creating a story through your interactions.
If GEARS OF WAR was a Jerry Bru...

Way to make sure the game gets overlooked...

...is that this is a FOX show.
So FOX has now joined Disney in moving content through Live.
*That* is significant.

As for pricing...?
If you don't like it don't buy it.
But do consider that these are *unbundled* prices; the DVD set "forces" you to buy a whole season even if you only want one episode. Video Marketplace lets you buy the season in installments, one episode at a time. Think of it as buying a car cash upfront vs financing it; fi...

The Economist is nobody's stooge.
They're actually a knowledgeable and generally impartial source in the pay of nobody.
And unlike a lot of posters around here, they are definitely *not* in Sony's pay.

Here's a better idea: *MAKE* them *earn* a win, if they *can*, by making a better product at a better price. If they can.
So far, they aren't.
So why should anybody give them anything they haven't earned?

When the format war started:
Hi-def movies on BD were supposed to cost $40, they now go for as low $20
Players were supposed to cost $1000 for the first year; they're down to $220
The movies were supposed to be encoded in tired old MPEG2; now...

...then why didn't all the consoles experience the same bump?
Because there were no Wii's to be bought anywhere and the PS3 didn't inspire anybody to drop $600.
That's all I said.
There were a lot of fence-sitters waiting to see the PS3 before buying a console.
Once they saw the PS3 in action many of them moved off the fence in one direction or another.
Most moved to 360.
That's what the chart shows.

November 06 was the 12th full month of sales for 360.
The big jump in 360 sales came dec 06, once people actually saw the PS3 in action and discovered there were no Wii's to be bought anywhere.

And the chart is not there to make anybody look good or bad; all it does is report the numbers and the trends.
You put those into context (release dates, supply conditions, game releases, etc) and you get a pretty good feel for what the market thinks of each of the three products.
The bottom line is that the market is saying that cheap matters more than HD graphics.
For now.
Not exactly a revelation is it?

Interesting to see that the demand-constrained PS3 performed like the supply-constrained 360 for the first couple of months, but then the two went their separate ways.
And the 360 curve clearly shows that the "wait for PS3" effect was real; once the PS3 and Wii were out and fully evaluated, that's when 360 took off.
If there was ever a need to prove that the console market is, indeed, price-sensitive, this is it.

I've been round here 6 months and I've seen not a hint of moderation of any kind. Place is a lawless free-fire zone and a boon to corporate shysters and FUD-spreaders...

1 - MS didn't drop their price for the PS3 launch; "Sony gave us our price cut" anybody?
2 - The Elite doesn't have a built-in HD-DVD
3 - the 360 doesn't use 4.7 GB DVDs (that was PS2); XBOXES have always used DVD9. 9Gb is hardly the issue BluRays fans make it out to be and it won't for a while.
Three strikes: you're outta here!

The game run on 360 and PC.
That's all folks.

Maybe they *like* that its never coming to PS3.
Who knows?

6740d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

it always was.
MS is paying to localize it to japanese, remember?
That was pointed out last month.
Why would MS do that if it wasn't signed, sealed, and delivered as 360 exclusive?
Go play Lair children and get out of here...

It's not news and it has nothing to do with 360.
And, its irrelevant.
Children: its a freaking rendering algorithm.
Its not the *only* way to do graphics.
Its not even the most efficient way to do this stuff in a game anyway.

But when nature gives you lemons, you make lemonade and when Sony gives you SPUs you do floating point technology demos.

But technology demos are not games and promises of fancy algorithms doesn't sell consoles. ...

Its not solely about streaming but about waaay more bandwidth for downloads; MS may be moving the media stuff to Limelight to allow all its in-house server capacity to support the Halo 3 spike to come.
(Anybody remember what Halo 2 did to US bandwidth?)

I'm the one who said the read the trends right but got the actuals wrong. They themselves admit they haven't calibrated their methodology.
As for where I got the spike; right here. Last week there was a link showing the 360 had over-taken PS3 again in late july.
Go back through the archives and you'll see a nice line chart showing a big spike followed by a drop.
I'm not making this up.
I leave that to the Sony Protection Group; that's what Sony pays them for, anywa...
