Yes, I'm buying it.
But its two months away!
Stop the torture!
The ITV offering in the article is not at all related to the Mediaroom IPTV effort. They have nothing in common.
Mediaroom is a back-end product MS sells to Cablecos and Telcos (AT&T, Verizon, etc) that want to offer full cable tv services over broadband. Among several choices, it will allow using a 360 as the customer STB. MS, however, doesn't provide the IPTV, they merely provide the tools for it.
The ITV product here, however, is an MS-provided "broadcast" chann...
...or as easy to do as just that.
An extra $25 won't cut it at all.
To do HD the Wii would have to triple the resolution (300K pixels at SD vs 1M pixels at 720P), which requires at a minimum a bigger memory buffer, more CPU power, more GPU power, higher internal bandwidths, plus a scaler chip (we've all seen what a lack of that did to Sony) and assorted enhancements.
What this report is telling us is that there is about US$200 worth of parts and services in a Wii; compare...
...but the thing to consider is that Halo 3 is, by design, "NOT-JUST-ANOTHER-GAME&am p;qu ot;. The fact that MS is able to merchandise it as broadly as they are tells you that the game's profile outside the gamer community is significant. That is what MS means when they refer to the Halo 3 launch as a pop culture phenomenon. They are marketing the *event*, not just the game.
So, things that might be excessive for any other game are quite appropriate for Halo.
Also, consider...
...Pepsi is paying MS.
So is 7-11.
And Marvel Comics.
And all the other vendors of Halo-themed products.
So those folks are paying for the privilege of promoting halo. Its merchandizing, not advertising.
At this point Halo is all about raking in the dough, not spending it.
And all those folks complaining? All they're doing is keeping the buzz going. Microsoft thanks you. Keep it up. ;-)
Just certifiably committed to your game, apparently. ;-)
Considering you earned your money honestly, no rational person would begrudge you how you spend it. Judging by the number of systems you've lined up it sound like you're planning some local coop action. Have fun!
(That *is* why we buy the boxes, no?)
...a long time ago. In the ATARI/Intellivision era.
Since then, they carry a lot of electronic toys 'round XMAS time, but no big-name products.
...not VGA...
S'alright. I'll pass on the word.
My friend has an analog-only 360 without HDMI but she's thinking of getting a second one, an Elite, so it might be of help to know the HDMI helps this game.
Anyway...
If Sony manages half the 360 sales rate in Sept it would actually be an improvement over july and august when you factor in the Halo effect.
Maybe they're expecting a $100 price cut on the 80GB PS3 to help there...
The cable helped that much?
What were you using before? Connection and resolution?
I have a friend that loved Baldur's gate who is also very sensitive to flicker; I'm not, so I can't judge if the frame rate issue is that bad or not. And, on top of that, I'm running 1080p VGA.
Would be nice to know if running 720p instead of 1080i could solve the graphics issue for her cause she is interested...
...in that they are getting an *exclusive* from Square Enix.
Before, they got (very) sloppy seconds; PS2 rehashes, years late.
This time around they have equality on "Last Revenant" and exclusivity on "Infinite Undiscovery". That's Square Enix betting on 360.
Both games might end up being crap but they still count as a plus.
The 80Gb? That would put them at $499, where they were in July. 170K units.
They need to drop $200 and that isn't coming til next April.
For now, they're stuck.
05 -- PS3 didn't exist
06 -- Sony didn't ship enough
07 -- Sony didn't cut price enough
That's three selling seasons in a row; half the generation...
...but why would you expect PS3 to sell more in Sept than aug?
The Clearance sale on the 60Gbs is about done so what they're selling is $600 80GB PS3s, no?
What's their game lineup for Sept?
Heavenly Sword and...?
I'd think Sony will be lucky to move 150K in sept.
To 1.6...
PS3 is lagging the 360 month to month worldwide, not just US.
Its the price, Sony!
(And the games, but hey, the price is easier to fix.)
That way nobody will buy a PS3 now.
Sony will really, really *thank you* for that.
Yup! Scare off today's buyers by telling them they'll save $200 if they wait til April 08 to buy a PS3.
By the way, 100 million of those mythical 120 Million PS2s sold *after* PS2 dropped to $199 and lower. Only 12 million sold at $299 and higher. So even a $399 PS3 isn't going to do Sony any good in getting the PS2 families to get PS3s.
Get a PC.
PCs and PC gaming are an adult-level free-fire zone.
Consoles, like it or not, as sold as family entertainment and the current gen are marketed as living room devices.
Not going to look good.
In Japan you see AO console games because the culture is different and because they don't as much PC gaming.
Besides, right now the stampede is in casual games, hadn't you guys noticed? There's a gold rush in simple family-oriented games.
If you want to...
...except for the part about fighting at the shrines...
That only works with low level foes; wander far enough away from the starting point of the game and the bad guys are too tough for that to work. Ditto for wearing a foe out through multiple re-spawnings.
You're not going to wear down a cyclops that way in any reasonable amount of time with anything less than a level 40 character. And if you're that high, you should have buffs and spells to do the job cleanly.
As for ...
...Half of current 360 owners were *not* original XBOX owners. Since original XBOX sold about 20 million, MS figures that a lot of those remaing 15 million XBOX owners are waiting for something; lower prices or...
...Halo...
Now they'll know how many were waiting for Halo and how many are waiting for lower prices.
We'll know better later this week when the August NPD numbers pop up, but the guessing is MS will get a nice august boost from the price cut and big sept-Oct bo...
...was different. Most of it was the ILOVEBEES ARG so there was a lot of buzz ( ;-) ) but it was under the radar of the media.
This time, MS is tricking the media into hyping the game for them...
The discussion on the Heavenly paring knife is on the next tab to the left.
The subject here is how badly will Pacheter get this prediction and in which direction. If you have nothing to contribute, would you kindly make your way to the exit, stage left?
Thank you and beware the rotary door; it might hit you in the rear if you're not careful. :-)
