Developed by SCEJ, they release info to the Japanese community first. Just like almost nobody in the western world knows about Mainichi Issho (the casual life type mini-game for PS3).
Playstation is an computer entertainment machine and marketed as such, with Blu-Ray, gaming, browsing, operating systems etc.... (SCEA, SCEE, SCEJ, etc)
XBOX360 is marketed as a gaming machine, and rightfully so, it's developed by Microsoft's GAMING division.
That being said, we'll see XBOX720 well before Playstation 4. I don't believe XBOX 360 will last another 8 years.
I probably only see Fable 2 as a potential system seller for the 360 coming this year (only because it has not been officially stated for release on PC). Since it does have the existing Fable fanbase out there that were playing on PC, I think it's the only crowd it can attract. Gears is not really a system seller, the crowd that will purchase it is mostly current Gears of War owners.

Doesn't matter what it was done in, it's bulky and a waste of space. The current one may be "orange" but it doesn't take as much space as your "concept".
Besides, Sony doesn't have to do anything to change it, if you don't like it just hide it.
I'm sure they'll add the ability to "Theme" it later on.

Own all 3 platforms, and the DLC is not a factor, why? I'm not buying a game that I have to pay an additional fee to play online for.

I don't see the content playing a factor in anybodies decision, since nobody knows what that content actually is or how much it'll cost (additional to the game). As well, new buyers will also have to take into account if they want to play online or not, new entries into the next-generation scene will have to think about the Gold Live fee if they chose the XBOX 360, THAT is a true factor in decision making since it's a part of the game that you can only have access to if you pay additional fee...
