Your friend opens the chest and force kills the game. You pick up the items. Your friend never saved or autosaved so he keeps key. You now have his items and the key.

also, it's really annoying to farm for items. I'm all for farming levels, but items is a hassle (it takes forever in Persona. At least for me). Going by their estimate (87 bazillion guns), it would take a really long time to get the perfect gun.
@^ but sometimes it's (more) fun to cheat. I wouldn't want to farm for guns in borderlands. That sounds terrible and would take hours to get the right gun.
I don't think it was a mistake. Either it was laziness or they just don't care if you cheat. You're just ruining it for yourself. And not like it's breaking the game for anyone (besides yourself if you mess up)

I think I know why they can't include one even though they're cheap.
Companies like to make it seem HDMI is expensive and the more expensive, the better. Including one without raising the price would question the true price of an HDMI. And then Monster would get mad with their 10x overpriced cables.
