"Just in: Big corporation doesn't like unionization!!!". Who the hell was ever wondering Activision's (or any big company's) position on the matter? I know it's fun to beat a beaten horse but really there is nothing to report here.
"The funny thing is unions only exist to protect people from companies". Should have just left that there. Adding "like Activision" adds no value. Activision is company. Unions are to protect all employees from all companies.
Incredibly shitty analogue. This site and its users have really gone downhill... oh never mind, it's LOGICWINS...
If you want to use mansion analogue you should be mentioning that after the purchase the old residents need to pay rent to come and visit. MS would get money from PlayStation players for every future multi-platform game purchase (and micro-transaction).
You really think MS and Sony cares about your subjective opinion on specific games? Sorry but they care about sales stats and business KPIs, even if you don't.
But I do agree that 7B for Zenimax seems cheap compared to this Bungie acquisition. However there might something behind the curtains that we are not aware of.
Imagine hating a game we know nothing about because of a camera angle. You are really limiting yourself if you skip (BIG) all first person games.
What? MS just recorded their all time high result. They are among the very biggest companies in the world and they are doing better than ever. I really don't know what you mean by this comment...
OWL got hurt by COVID way harder than any other esports. Oher esport game inceased in viewership numbers during covid crisis but OWL declined. Reason is that the whole league was build for live events. Live events were absolutely bonkers for their seasons 1 and 2 specifically. With covid they had to halt all live events and do online production instead. They hype died almost instantly. Production quality was way lower and matches were not that interesting anymore without live audience reactio...
MLG isn't that big though. OWL is also streamed via MLG but only a fraction of viewers are on that platform. That's why OWL had big deals with Twitch and later with Youtube.
This guy doesn't business. They spent $70 billion on this acquisition. They cannot afford NOT selling Activision-Blizzard games on all possible platforms. At least not within many years. They need to fund this investment somehow. Gambling that massive amount of gamers would move to Xbox platform doesn't really justify this kind of investment. +10M player base on Xbox Series X/S isn't enough. And a realistically expected increase in player base isn't enough either. Successful C...
To be fair it's a two-way train. It's not like MS is an evil company forcing competitors to do this. Sony has been playing the same game recently, albeit with much smaller stakes. But they have enforced their first-party studio line-up immensely.
I actually think MS is playing this rather smart, and this is coming from a vouched PS fan since the release of PS1. They are purchasing some of the the biggest developers and franchises in the world. Most likely they don...
Bobby leaving is pretty much guaranteed. When a company is acquired like this the normal procedure is that old top management of such company is either demoted or they are being let go / they resign. This combined with the fact that general public want Kotick gone is a really strong indication that after the merger is done, Bobby is gone. I don't have any insider info on this but I've been dealing with company mergers in mid management level for quite some time. Not that this means an...
"Bodes really badly for Naugtydog", but why? These game developers are not allowed to have a different opinion than you? :D
Why the hell you platinumed Deathloop if you didn't really care for it???
This. Although actually in GTA every single NPC and car indeed just teleport close to you. All NPC assets are just pre-programmed 2D models when they are far away. Only when they get close to players the models are changed to actual 3D models.
Wow, the amount of hate Deathloop gets is astonishing. It started since the first trailers and hate train seemed to only build up towards the release. I feel that people had already decided they don't like this game before even trying it. Personally I think it was an amazing game. Not really comparable to other GotY winners and not a 10/10 game but still a very solid experience. It's a complete package with great writing, amazing voice acting, unique atmosphere, fun and over-the-top a...
Woke? Like how??? This is the first time I've even read anyone commenting about the race thing related to this game. While playing Deathloop I never even once stopped to think about that the main characters are black. Why would have I? Why is this even a topic to discuss? Why game character race matters?
I like your top 6 a lot. I don't have the same orders but all those games would make my top 10 RPG list most likely. Number 1 for me is FFIX. It holds a special place in my heart and imo it's the perfect Final Fantasy game.
In addition I would give special mention to some western RPG's as well: Skyrim and Mass Effect 2 were iconic games. Out of JRPG's I'd like to add Disgaea 2 on that list.
Atticus: Yes, those games are still linear. But the line is starting to blur. Last of us 2 was already semi open world. Ucharted 4 too. God of war maybe a bit less so: It's seemingly open world but the player is guided through linear route (mostly). But the "open world" map doesn't provide any value to me. It's just distraction and an artificial way to make the game last longer. You need to wander around the map to find some collectables. I hate that. I like how old GoW ...
There aren't many linear AAA anymore. Most AAA games have been moving away from linear gameplay. Nowadays if you want to good linear games you are pretty much dependant on indies.
I personally agree fully with the author. It's a shame really that almost all the games are moving towards same formula. It's getting really tiresome. I don't want to invest dozens of hours in roaming around big free world maps all the time. For some games it's great! GTA, Sky...
Lol no I don't. I don't defend any scummy actions by any company. I'm just stating the facts: Companies don't like unions. None of them. But because it's Activision we are talking about here this becomes newsworthy. If it was any other gaming company opposing unionizing I DOUBT it would be as big news. It's double standards and I hate it. Again, just stating the facts. Downvote if you disagree with the facts.
