I disagree, he is simply a programmer who instead of trying to make legit money with his skills is resorting to hacking hardware with the ruse that it would be used for legitimate purposes.
Piracy aside, the Dreamcast is a good example of a console whose exploit was used for legitimate purposes. Bleemcast, VCD support, etc. The latter actually helped move consoles in Asia. You really can't get that time of "experience" in this day and age, there are far too ma...
The limit really wasn't enforced that much when it was around, Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, etc were all sub HD when the limit was in place. If Microsoft told a developer to go back and make their game HD, there would be no guarantee that the developer could do it or even come back.
Playing through Alan Wake I can say it really doesn't matter. The buffer was 540p but the textures were pretty high res and it becomes apparent when looking at signs, reading posters, etc.
To answer your question,
********SPOILER ALERT************
It's assumed Alan sacrificed himself to save Bright Falls, the people who were taken were returned from what I could gather since you see Rusty (the park ranger) in the window and the diner waitress was back to normal.
********END SPOILER ALERT************
Were you gaming in the 90s? It's basically a mech battle game, Virtual On was a really popular and active franchise then [90s], been kind of dormant as of late though. It's really popular in Japan.
Lets wait for the DLC to actually come out before we jump to conclusions, Alan Wake from post gold interviews was always meant to be a game that was spread across various episodes or even games. I think the writer behind Alan Wake said something like Alan Wake was the "end of season one".
The current episodes are well over an hour long as is, some are close to two hours if you search for manuscripts, thermoses, radios, tvs, weapon caches, etc. I doubt Remedy would break that pacing.
So much Section 8 hate here, the game isn't bad if you can get it for $30-40 (which is the price on PSN isn't it?)
Just because a game didn't get great reviews doesn't mean it should be ignored or shunned altogether, price drops are a great way to jump in.
To be fair, the studio is in court right now over the publisher not paying them for the game so for all we know, they could have put all there eggs into this basket to try to stay afloat.
Speaking of which, in a interview on IGN I think the CEO of the developer said they made the PS3 version a cheap digital game because of the legal issues with the publisher.
The end of an era, RIP 1958-2010
The first set of DLC is free for anyone who bought the game new and is just over two months away. The second set was announced but a release date is TBA.
I was looking for a link, not just a "XXXX said so".
Was that 1 million ever confirmed or was it just rumored?
The game is Xbox exclusive in North America since the Dreamcast version was never officially released here.
Are you sure about that? Wasn't it November or December 2009 where the Xbox 360 sold nearly 1 million units in the US due to Modern Warfare 2?
It broke XBL records by over 1.5 million so I'm sure the Microsoft higher ups and stock holders are pleased.
It's called the Dreamcast...
The original Shenmue still sold over a million copies from what I'm hearing but with a $70 million budget you'd have to sell at least double that to break even.
I don't know how Shenmue II had sold though and I doubt it was ever made public asides from the Japanese figures?
Thank you so much for that informative post, all my questions are answered now...
Some of the in-game advertising/placement was done really well but this Verizon ad is definitely not.
Seven hours? Have you even played the game? Each of the episodes are well over an hour long.
Has the reviewer never visited a forest or a mining ghost town before? They look similar for a reason!
And as for the first/last level comment, they also look similar for a reason and it has to do with a very big plot element!
