Hard drives are needed. If they expect people to use their video service, download all the exclusive DLC, and use the new install feature, its a must. Without a Hard Drive, the 360 looses so much of its appeal.
If they want exclusives, they should build up their first party studios.
It might be a noticeable graphic difference. I don't think we've ever seen a game compressed to the point of actually making it worse, so Rage could be a major omen to MS if the graphics are significantly different.

MS needs someone to push their console. Epic is doing that but Gears of War 3 is not guaranteed to be published my MS, so if Epic doesn't see a point in limiting it demographic they're going to want it multiplatform. The 360 can do much better then Gears 2, but if the ps3 really does reach its potential anywhere in the near future, MS would have problems putting their games up against Sony's games. I think that Ms will place their next console when that starts to happen, but hopefully for them, they won't have to rush it.
