I did read the description and have played the game through too many times to count. I've also played through Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana multiple times. Are they similar? No. Are they in the same genre? Obviously. So obviously I can't believe i'm arguing this.

The last game that was a struggle for me to finish was Borderlands. About half way through I just stopped caring and couldn't be bothered grinding my way to the end. I still did it though, but haven't picked it up or touched the dlc since I finished it.
My top three PC games this year are sequels, which sucks in it's own way.

Afaik Square are only handling the cg sequences and distribution and have nothing to do with the gameplay? I think they can handle that.
How can you say that RPG's have transcended the literal meaning of the genre and then go on to say that Deus Ex, a game that truly evolved the RPG genre in every sense, isn't an RPG??

The article makes a good point, however much we may disagree with some of the examples.
Most reviewers no longer have the right to be called game critics, because they don't critique a game at all. They highlight it's good points with some glowing praise for the developer and quickly brush over the bad bits, which is almost the exact opposite of what a review should do.

Just finished the campaign last night - well worth a 9.5 in my books on that alone. Going to get stuck into the mp later today.
As for GOTY - I still rate ME2 above this. I just finished another playthrough just before I picked this up, and it just seemed that much more epic to me. I know one's an RTS and one's a shooter/rpg, but they both go for the epic style of story telling, and I just think ME2 pulls it off better.
