That's not entirely fair - though I see your point. It's usually the big releases that share the same IPs as older ones - especially in traditional games, but Nintendo have done a lot that's new in that sector. Stuff like Hydroventure, Hotel Dusk, Steel Diver (though that was a bit rubbish), Rhythm Heaven, The Last Story, Xenoblade Chronicles, Sin & Punishment etc, even if a lot of these weren't developed by Nintendo's internal studios but second party teams or being N...

It is on par with the PS2 version - in terms of raw assets in it at least.

The 3DS screenshots from the dev kits are at 800 x 480 - a higher resolution than the PS2 original, but 3DS will be rendering the game at 400 x 240 or 800 x 240 in 3D mode, so the visuals and textureswill look crisper/less blurry on it. Sort of like how Wii dev kits screens from Nintendo for Metroid Other M were at HD resolutions.

The article mentions how the game has been visually dow...

I think there's a bit of confusion about - It's a visual downgrade in technical terms from what was shown last year. That is character models aren't as detailed as the PS3 models used from 2010 and the fancy new shader effects are gone.

Of course, last year's footage was a mere demo without any "game" elements in it (only a rotatable camera) for 3DS to compute, so it was bound to look close to the PS2 original instead now.

3DS is not rendering twice as many frames as the PS2 because its resolution in 2D mode is far lower, and in 3D mode it's still lower than it was on PS2 in 2D.

3DS renders its games at 400 x 240 - or 240p - in 2D mode. In 3D mode it does this twice - but at 800 x 240 for both.

In comparison, the PS2 version ran at 640 x 480 - or 480p. It's still pushing out more pixels than 3DS had to in 3D mode, thus 3DS isn't rendering more than PS2. and this is ...

That's not a fair statement. 3DS only has to render the scene at 400 x 240 twice = 800 x 240 resolution whereas the original PS2 version runs at about two times the resolution at 640 x 480. Even if 3DS is rendering the action twice, it's still pushing out less pixels than PS2 was.

It's still a true statement however, as a 3D version of the PS2 game would have to run at 1280 x 480, which would be insane.

Firstly - you're taking complete garbage - at least to say 3DS is doing more than PS2 had to. It isn't.

3DS isn't rendering twice as many frames per second as PS2 as you mention.

It's rendering 2 scenes @ 400 x 240 = 800 x 240 at 240p. The original PS2 version runs at 640 x 480, which is 480p, and about twice as many pixels as 3DS. By your logic, if anything the original PS2 version has more to do than the 3DS as it's pushing out more pixe...

Unfortunately the PSP2/Sony Vita edition looks to be the same as the PS3/360 HD reissue version - so the same visuals as PS2, in high res. Still, it's great to see this classic playable on more consoles.

Same here! It was hard to go back to the old camera after that. Also helped me appreciate the game's amazing visuals.

It would seem so. A wise choice by Nintendo. Hope third parties catch on to it, though.

Hope so. I'm glad the rotatable camera will be back.

Have you seen the UK preorder bonuses - players only receive a poster and a gold sleeve for the game.

See: http://3dstribe.com/news/ze...

Disappointing for a remake of one of gaming's greatest and most loved games.

You can't blame people for being disappointed, really. In the UK, 3DS games have been out of the top 40 charts for weeks despite making the top 10 at launch, with Steel Diver also failing to sell well (it never made the top 40 charts either), so expectations were high on Dead or Alive Dimensions. Of course, it could sell well in the long run, as you mentioned, but Dead or Alive Dimensions definitely deserved better first week sales, it's a quality game that many ignored.

Agreed, the dialogue isn't particularly interesting either. Was a great RPG though, if not a bit on the easy side (I remember the two Game Boy Advance Golden Suns to have very difficult bosses, but maybe I'm just better at RPGs now).

You do realise Nintendo use Mediacreate's figures when they refer to system sales to consumers, right? http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n...

Are you sure Mediacreate and the US figures don't include consoles sold online? Where's your evidence to suggest this? I thought it was download-only software from services such as PSN and Xbox Live Games on Demand which isn't c...

You sir, made my day.

Agreed. Pretty much all the game websites reported them as "sold", and lots of people believe it as sold, so I posted this article up (which has evidence that it is indeed shipped) just to clear up the huge confusion around 3DS sales figures.

Aye, loads of awesome stuff on the way. I'm so glad Tales is set for 2011 in Europe too, as it was said to be reaching 2012 yesterday but namco have rectified this.

Sorry about that - but the original title wasn't what I posted the news for. I was a bit disappointed that the Fuka nendoroid (which looks much better than what NIS have decided to pack with Disgaea 4 with the US releases) was replaced with something hugely inferior, which is also what the article suggests.

Agreed - I personally was expecting something like Etrian Odyssey but this goes a step beyond that. The environments really feel alive.

Yes please - TWEWY is one of my favourite DS games ever. Actually, I feel like playing the original again now, even though it's only been 3 years since it released. What a quality game.
