The Playstation 3 is already maxed out A game called Battlefield did it. Even Crysis 2 did also because the console versions are not rendering even remotely what the PC version is doing in regards to real time lighting and real time effects.
When these consoles can deliver visuals

Next generation consoles SHOULD just install all games to the HDD.
You still have the physical copy but no archaic load times.
That way it won't matter what optical media is used. The console will be running the game not off the disk. Exactly like a PC and load times are lowered.

Sony did not show anyone anything but developer headaches. The PS3 was powerful but Sony's developer tools and hardware design choice was not exactly the wisest choice.
Now take a look at the Vita and that is how Sony should have built the PS3: Developer friendly and still powerful

WW Gears of War will sell systems. Look at the history of the franchise and sales. Every Gears moved consoles in most if not all markets.
Forza 4 I am not sure about, but Gears 3...It's going to move systems WW.
MS will not price cut the Xbox360 IF the Xbox360 is still outselling the PS3 in NA.
As soon as the PS3 starts outselling the Xbox360 in NA because of the PS3 new price, MS will follow suit.

Texture resolution comes down to mostly the systems memory and bandwidth for that given system.
It's the reason all console games have a mixture of low and high resolution textures with low being dominate.
Most console games on the PS3 and Xbox360 suffer from this because of its limited memory allocation.
There is only so much you can do with 512 megs of memory...especially when textures need more memory and bandwidth if those textures are running high and detailed...
Whether its too much for me is irrelevant.

When the PSP came out, EVERYONE said it would DESTROY the DS. It was more powerful. Had more features. Played movies. MP3's. Wi-Fi. Etc.
The PSP had features the DS did not have and it was more powerful. YET, the average consumer bought the DS in droves because of the Nintendo name and the lower price of the unit.
$250-$300 is still too costly for most consumers regardless of the technology behind a hand held gaming device.
The 3DS should have sold at $169 from the very start.
Nintendo tried to pull a fast one on consumers and it failed.
The Vita will have a tough time selling at its price points in this economy and with the 3DS at the price it is at now.

Uncharted 3 like Uncharted 2 also does not have most of its lighting done in real time...nor its soft shadows. Some of it is. Most of it is NOT.
No real time Global illumination.
No Real time subsurface scattering or Dynamic volumetric light beams & light shaft effects in real time.
