Out of all the possible examples, you had to use Mario Kart? The franchise that has only had 8 entries in 21 years?
Lol you.
Nicely played.
Monolith Soft, the dudes making X, are completely owned by Nintendo. That makes them first party.
I consider myself a pretty optimistic dude when it comes to Nintendo and the Wii U, but even I am having a bit of a hard time believing they can reach 9 million consoles sold by the end of march 2014, when to date, they've sold just a bit shy of 4 million.
So, their goal is 5 million more consoles sold in the next 5 months? If Mario Kart and Donkey are released in these months, along with the upcoming release of Mario 3D World, could that combo do the trick?
1) Microsoft charges you for online play. Nintendo doesn't. So, I would expect Live to be a bit more polished experience than Nintendo's, taking that into consideration.
So, to make it a bit more fair, let's compare the Wii U's online to the PS3's, shall we? The PS3 online system is still a bit superior, but that's because of the fact that the friend list is more accesible on the PS3 than it is on the Wii U. Something that SHOULD be addressed with a so...
Infamous? (if you have a PS3, of course).
Shin'en's new game has already been announced today, I think. Here's their teaser site, there's no other info released thus far except for this.

1. Wii U has perfectly functional online capabilities.
2. Nintendo has absolutely nothing to do with Rayman Legends, that's a Ubisoft game.
3. Releasing Mario 3D the same day as the Xbox One... what's a better alternative, I ask you? Release absolutely nothing, and let the Wii U be completely forgotten in the wake of the release of the other two next gen machines? Nintendo is releasing Mario at the same time as the PS4 and Xbox One precisely because t...
Slippy, Falco and Peppy were Fox's teammates. Yes, there was a pig in Star Fox 64, and his name was Pigma Dengar, and he was on James McCloud's team (Fox's father). He betrayed him and joined Andross' forces, under Wolf's command.
You really think that the PS4 version of Assassin's Creed IV is representative of the actual power of the PS4?
It's not. It's just a quick port made for the PS4 launch. Just as most of the Wii U's third party launch games were quick ports, and aren't representative of the Wii U's capabilities, either.
I don't actually know how powerful the Wii U is - and for that matter, you don't, either - because we're barely on its first...
It's way too soon to say either way.
I'll admit that I usually like Jim Sterling's reviews, but then there are times where he just baffles my mind. This is one of these times. 0___o
Really? On this site, you only need to say something positive about Microsoft to get disagreed to hell. However, if you say something positive about Sony, you usually will get tons of agrees.
I agree with you in that nobody should be afraid to express their opinion freely (as long as it's put forward in a civilized manner), but come on, you know pretty well that this site is filled for the most part by awful fanboys and haters. No wonder some people would thread carefully...
I guess the disagrees must be because one single game franchise with good online support doesn't mean Nintendo focus on online play. As I said, they have many franchises, and they only use Mario Kart for serious online play. So, they aren't really "online focused" now, are they?
Kid Icarus is a Nintendo IP, though. Same goes for Dark Moon.
And saying that platformers don't need online is just making excuses.
Dude, I like Nintendo as much as you do (and who knows, maybe even more), but come on, it's good to call them out when they do bullshit like this. Because on this day and age, making games that are awesome for multiplayer, and making them local only, is exactly that: bullshit.
All the Mario Kart games since the DS one have had good online play, and Mario Kart 8 will likely be no exception, but that doesn't mean that Nintendo, as a whole, focus on online.
"This time around"? That implies that Nintendo focused on online play sometime in the past, which never was the case. Out of all of Nintendo's many, many, many IPs, there's only ONE that takes online play seriously: Mario Kart. And, gee, that franchise is popular as hell... not saying that online play is the sole reason why Mario Kart is so popular, but it probably was a big factor.

Anyway, this rumor is definitely batshit insane. If it turned out to be actually true, I would have a heart attack. XD
Fair enough. Although I made it clear that it was just an initial impression based on this trailer alone. I'm saying that because I see lots of comments about how amazing this game looks because of THIS trailer, and that's what I find weird, because for me, the game doesn't look THAT good on this particular trailer, graphically speaking.
While you raise perfectly valid points, but I wanted to note out that the Gamecube was on power parity with the PS2 and the original Xbox, hardware wise (it was, in fact, more powerful than the PS2).
And it had decent third party support as far as I know... but still ended up being the least selling of the three consoles of that generation, managing to sell even less than the N64.
Yes, it still turned a nice profit for Nintendo, but they saw that each new con...
