@SolidGamerX: "If its pronounced Kee-Kay then why not just write it that way and not risk a potential ban?"
Wow, are you serious? Because in spanish it's written Kike, not Kee-kay. That is the approximate pronounciation for english speakers, but in spanish it's written Kike.
So basically, you are asking why a person in Mexico didn't write his name the way it phonetically sounds in english instead of, you know, writing his name on his...
Nice cop out man, but nah brah, you're wrong. Just because you knew the term doesn't mean everyone does, as is readily apparent on the replies to your own comment. I don't know, maybe kike (as in, the derogatory term against jewish people) is more obvious for people that speak english natively like yourself, but trust me... that is not what comes to mind at all when used in the context of latin american spanish speakers. On that context, it's a short form of Enrique, completel...
...and Costa Rica, and pretty much any spanish-speaking country.
Dude, he's mexican. Kike means only one thing to him, and that is, a nickname for his own name, Enrique.
You're incredibly naive and short sighted if you think everyone has the same culture on every goddamn country in the world. I'm from Costa Rica, and Kike is also a nickname for Enrique here (just as it is on pretty much any Spanish-speaking country: it's just as common as "Bob" for "Robert"), and I didn't know until today that Kike...
It's called being humble and sympathetic. I get your point, really, but the other guy's position of apologizing if anyone felt offended because they misunderstood the intent is also a valid approach. People do this in order to keep things civilized and not escalate anything (especially when they want a resolution to a conflict that affects them personally), even when they know they haven't actually done anything wrong. It's just basic diplomacy, and there's a good chance t...
And that's good to know, but the issue still came into light that if Sony bans your account for whatever reason, you don't just lose access to online gaming (which is fair), you also lose all access to all the digital content you bought whatsoever (which is fucked up). I really didn't know that. Fuck Sony, then. Anyone knows if this applies to other services as well (Nintendo, Microsoft, Steam?) Because it's fucked up.
Kike is common in pretty much any spanish-speaking country, not just Mexico. I'm from Costa Rica, and yes, we call "Kike" or "Quique" to anyone called Enrique.
And yes, we also call "Negro" or "Negra" to any person with a dark skin tone that we're endeared to, and culturally speaking, it's not derogatory here, it's an affectionate term we employ to dark skinned people that we are very familiar with (although "negr...
Anyone who speaks spanish natively (like myself) can tell you that Kike is, in fact, a completely common nickname for people called Enrique on ALL spanish-spaking countries. Imagine if you're called William and got banned and lost access to all of your games because your username was Bill_0517, because "Bill" is an offensive word in another language and you didn't even know that. Insane, right?
Since you agreed to the terms of it on whatever service you signed up for, when you want to buy digital content. Nobody ever reads the terms of agreement, but it's been public knowledge for years now that you don't really own any video game you "buy". It's basically just a rental for an undisclosed amount of time.
It's fucked up, I know. It's also the wonderful world we're heading towards. Yay?
That's just apologism speaking.
I don't care much about trophies / achievements, but come on. Clearly a lot of people do. Having them doesn't detract anything from a game, and it actually makes games more appealing for a lot of people. If you don't care about them, fine, but you don't speak for the majority of the gaming population.
Of course the Switch is more powerful than the Wii U (especially given its small form factor), but it's still closer in power to the Wii U than it is to the Xbox One and above. Just like the Wii is more powerful than the Gamecube but closer to it than to an Xbox 360.
The author is right on that one.
Not true. Nintendo always do price cuts for their consoles, Wii U was the exception, not the rule.
Dude, all cards on the table: all companies have dumb shit regarding online practices that need to be addressed (and all of them have been mentioned in the comments here):
1. Nintendo can't implement voice chat on their own without the help of a stupid phone app (een though third party games like Fortnite have in-game voice chat on Switch, no app required)
2. Microsoft puts free to play games behind the Live paywall as you mentioned.
Not fully. At least for now, it's on a "per game" basis, it seems.
Press reports on the Nintendo Direct they do, press reports on the Treehouse presentations they do on the actual show floor, press reports on the games that are present on Nintendo's booth (which is always huge).
That's why they bother being there without making a press conference.
Lol, dude. Sony isn't hurting for games right now. Their absence from next year's E3 only speaks volumes about E3's rising irrelevance on the game industry year after year, not anything about Sony's state in the gaming space, of which they are the absolute leaders right now by a wide margin.
A few years ago, Nintendo stopped making conferences at E3.
Last year, Microsoft didn't do their conference at E3 properly, but in another venue pretty clos...
I agree with you on Microsoft, but Nintendo?
Dude, get real. Nintendo makes a lot of fantastic games.
If it's well implemented, it's far from dumb. Splatoon and Splatoon 2 are fantastic because of the gyro aim, which works superb when coupled with the dual sticks.
Paladins on Switch didn't have motion controls, it's getting it now. Maybe you mean Fortnite?
I love well implemented motion controls like Splatoon, but Fortnite's weren't that good. Framerate has a big impact on the effectivity of motion controls, and last I played Fortnite, its framerate was really choppy and the motions suffered because of that.
Paladins runs at 60fps, so I hope they work properly here.
@Christopher: if you google Kike Bolivia and Kike Panamá, you get plenty of results. How old are your in-laws? Maybe age has something to do with it. As for your own experience in Panama, maybe you never came across a particular Enrique "Kike" or "Quique" to know how common it is. But it is. :P
