Cold's right. PS3 likely won't leave third place, but that doesn't mean it won't do extremely well.
@Pope- Thats just it! The consumer ISN'T that smart. If consumers were "smart" the Wii wouldn't be the best selling games console and 360 sales would have been plummeting drastically. No ones denying that the PS3 is the best console this gen, its just that casual consumers don;t understand that as well as we do.

I hate ta say it, but M$ most likely did that on purpose to surprise everyone later on. Do you really thk they'd just let Sony dominate Gamescom if it wasn't for a reason??? Expect Microsoft to drop the price of the Elite sometime in September. Either way, the PS3 is still blatantly the better value at 300 bucks. The only thing I could imagine that could keep M$ competitive is if gold membership became free and they put a 60gb hardrive in the arcade and sell the system for 200 bucks.
Because of this, Mass Effect 2 will come to PS3. I don't have a doubt in my mind. EA won't ignore Sony's ever-growing audience after the price drop. Id love to see Splinter Cell: Conviction follow suit, but I doubt M$ is dumb enough ta let that go.

Sony isn't doomed, but its very possible that that will stay in 3rd place. Who knows what M$ ill do in the coming weeks. Either way, it doesn't matter to me. I'll be busy playing Uncharted 2 and Dead Nation will this guy counts numbers.

Okay, the only people that say L4D is crap are people who haven't played it or don't like shooters PERIOD. That game is awesome and if it ever came out on PS3, id be first in line.
LMAO, id be funny if after all this Microsoft STILL outsells Sony. Id be nice to see Sony win the year but unfortunately many consumers resonate more with Halo than Uncharted and that ill affect the choice of new console owners. We here on N4G know better but the average casual consumer isn't THAT smart in my opinion. Wii sales are proof of that.

I thk 360 developers have already stepped up their game with Conviction and Mass Effect, but ur right, its really not the devs fault that they can't keep up with the PS3..its the 360's crappy hardware
It doesn't look as sexy as the fat ps3, but that slim one is making me consider buying another one if mine breaks.
LOL, the consumers ARE stupid. Are u forgetting that the Wii is in 1st place and the PS3 is in 3rd? Believe it or not but "informed hardcore gamers' are the minority. For me, PS3 is the best value and best overall console by far, but unfortunately the kids like to play Halo.

360 has more gigs for the money. Arguably better online play than the ps3. No built in wi-fi. High failure rate.
PS3 has better hardware, more potential, and has the best exclusives by a longshot. Online play is relatively close to that of the 360's and getting closer and closer as time goes on. Built in wi-fi. Very low failure rate
Even if the 160gb Elite goes down to 300 bucks, the 80gb ps3 slim offers better value in my opinion due to better exclusives, better har...

360 Elite offers 160GB for(soon to be announced) 300 bucks and is more popular than the pS3 at this point
PS3 Slim offers 80GB for 300 bucks and is not as popular as the 360
From what I see here, M$ still has the price advantage if this Elite going down to 300 bucks rumor is confirmed. They have the value advantage as well since a ps3 slim offers 80 gigs for 300 bucks and the elite will offer 160 gigs for 300 bucks. So in a sense, M$ is actually in a better position ...
