The only action rpgs that i know of are the Shining series (They're now), Tales of, Star Ocean. and thats it, please enlighten me if im missing a game.

I don't think so.
Even if you have a Gran Turismo budget, you can't have that much enemies flying on the screen at once without grinding the CPU to a halt. EDF 2025 is sometimes a frikkin slideshow because there is an uncountable enemes on the screen at once and the CPU is doing its best to keep up.
Check out BlazBlue. Its not a JRPG but the story is so damn good i enjoyed it as much as the fighting.
The new YS is all i need from JRPGs. Also, Falcom games that never see the light of day outside of japan.

EDF was never about graphics. You can't get good graphics and details with that much stuff on screen at once.
