Nix BC is so unimportant Sony seems to think people are willing to pay for it. So apparently both companies have fans that want it. They just chose different ways to bring it to their respective fans.

Side note. I wonder what led Sony to believe people would pay for BC after listening to them bitchin about Microsoft charging for Live. Now they expect those same people to pay for both. Though I don't question their decision. They know their fan base.

Concertoine there is plenty of disposable income there. IPhones cost far more in China but sell millions of units. The Chinese middleclass has more people than the US has people. The Chinese just don't like consoles. We know, based on th number of Chinese phone manufacturers alone, they love cellphones. Microsoft and Sony will continue to lose millions there until they compell the people to buy consoles.

Apple made several billion in profit in China. It ain't a money ...

The average income matters but it is relative. China has more middleclass families than the US has people. China has the second most millionaires in the world. Those almost 400,000 people buy plenty of luxury items and the consoles aren't priced like luxury items. Those families have cars, flat screen TVs and a lot of the things a middleclass family in the rest of the industrialized world has. All while saving more money than the average American.

They just don't lik...

Games aren't too expensive to make if they make a profit. I think sometimes people see things in a vacuum and then add in their own realities based on things they've heard in the past. Games are no different from most of the rest of society. Cost have gone up for developers because programming is a in demand field. It's not like hiring bag boys for a grocery store. There are plenty of jobs available to programmers so they get paid well.

In demand creative jobs, es...

I always laugh when I hear people say something like Hololens would be too pricey at $1000. $800 for a iPhone, no problem. $1000 for a Surface Pro, I'm in. $1000 for a full computer that fits on your face and maps your environment.

And here's the biggest miss in all the price whining. Phone companies subsidize $800 iPhones so you only pay $250-300 just to sell you phone service, right. Do you think they won't subsidize Hololens if it means not only selling you ph...

You don't see the consumer needs but many others will. I can see this technology added to windshields. It would work the same as the device does when a person uses it. It maps the road using a map service and shows what lane you're supposed to be in. Tracks other vehicles and illuminates those that make erratic moves, when you are driving to close or after cars are connected it actually shows you when someone is about to turn into your lane. Connected to a weather service it could hel...

That's the thing isn't. You have a bunch of indie developers complaining about the cost of the dev kit. Any hardcore gamer probably already knows a console dev kit is more than three times the cost of Hololens. One mentions exceptions are made for indie developers. But they also need to realize consoles are a mature technology. This generation being far cheaper to produce than any other. Hololens is a totally new technology with many expensive additional tech inside. Someone giving yo...

You are forgetting this is a portable with the power of desktop most likely. That doesn't come cheap. Surface Pro is over $1,000. You should expect something similar for Hololens.

Actually it's not steep at all. You have to remember last generation what console development kits cost. It was a lot more. So that is relatively cheap.

PS3 cost dropped to 10,500 after a 50% price cut. $3000 is nothing. PS4 is rumored to be $2,500.

Maybe they'll introduce three since they did two today. I want an Elite controller with Gears or Fallout.

Martin I hate to tell you but neither Activision or EA or even Sony is going to spend the 10+ billion Microsoft spent on cloud infrastructure. Microsoft has the advantage of having over 10 billion annually in cloud revenue that has nothing to do with gaming. Blu-ray and the Cell cost Sony 1.5 billion and they had major plans for those things outside of gaming. Sony would be the only one of the three that might be able to justify the expense but they still can't afford the expense. Borrowi...

Funny you say that when Japanese developers actually say Japanese games are becoming more westernized. Hmmmm.

Leaving off Martin Sheen kills any list of celebrity voice work. That was a great character and the perfect voice for him.

Now somebody has to get Morgan Freeman for a role.

The Sony fanboy is a fickle creature. Once complaining Microsoft only buys third party support and then complaining about it when they move away from it.

If Microsoft uses funds previously spent on third party games on exclusive features like cloud support they will be far better off. The uniqueness of the OS and cloud computing are what will differentiate Xbox One so that is where their focus should be.

Microsoft is not nearly as restrictive as Sony used(still is) be. Sony's policy used to be they owned the IP. Microsoft never did anything remotely as restrictive as that.

Frosty look into universal apps. According to Microsoft speakers several times at BUILD and GDC that is already the case. They've made it clear universal apps will work across all platforms with minor adjustments and that games are apps. It's up to developers to allow one purchase cross platform use. But Windows 10 is a unified system including Xbox. Phil Spencer even mentioned producing Excel spreadsheets on Xbox at the Windows 10 announcement conference.

It's not a surprise Sony fans refuse to believe Xbox makes money, they have their own agenda. But to deny it and then see gamers get so upset when the rest of society looks at us as children or stupid is unbelievable. The kind of ignorance that goes into choosing a side and then blindly sticking to it no matter what is the same stupidity at its core as what leads to racism, sexism, terrorism and any other destructive ism you can think of.

Xbox is in a division with many ...

I don't argue it can't be, I'm saying it hasn't been embraced for actual gaming. On that point the author is obviously clueless. But there are things that can be done with it if developers tried.

Ok, that is when it is obvious a writer has no idea what the hell it is he's talking about.
