Lots of ip's sit idle. Sony owns Heavenly Sword, why don't they give it back to Ninja Theory? Naughty Dog works for Sony, Activision is a third party publisher. Maybe in the future they can work together but it would be only on Sony devices because Sony would not allow Naughty Dog to make games on anything else.
Who knows, with the PS4 doing so well it might make sense to do it but i'd rather Naughty Dog focus on other games.
What is next gen? Is it games that look better than last gen? If so that's what PC games have been doing all along. This is the first generation I can think of where console hardware is already falling behind PC's.
I think people also want new experiences that aren't possible on old hardware. Bigger worlds, smarter A.I. new gameplay mechanics like Oculus Rift/Project Morpheus. Cloud technology like we see with Drivatars, that sort of stuff.

They ALL hid numbers, it's why Neogaf every month tries to determine how many sales actually occurred each time NPD reports come out. They ALL spin the numbers too and we are seeing Microsoft do what Sony and Nintendo have done, combine sales.
Sony stopped reporting hardware sales last generation on the PS3 and Nintendo is doing it for the Wii U and now so is Microsoft. ALL of them will do it if the real numbers aren't showing strong sales.
If we thought it was ridiculous before it's getting downright ludicrous now. Gamestop is now involved with exclusive content and publishers know how big they are. It was bad enough the big hardware companies dividing gamers now we have retailers getting involved. Problem is not everyone has access to Gamestop and not everyone wants to shop there either.
