Where is the backlash about characters like bayo, any female character in ninja gaiden, soul caliber's ivy etc?
It is not about showing skin or not only.
It's about the context and the theme of the game/movie.
Very few gamers complains about bikini clad fighters in dead or alive nor the strippers in gta games.
If kojima hadn't teased the character model by showing us a shot of her ass only, nobody would be outraged.
Quiet design is very tame compared to other video games characters who nobody complained about.

I don't understand the comparison of the first three games you've listed with Mario 2D games. Rayman legends and origin is similar but journey, braid and limbo aren't.
I felt the recent 2D Mario games weren't even that great for Nintendo who 2D games are their bread and butter.
Donkey Kong country returns blows any "new" super Mario bros out of the water imo.
Exactly what I thought, Japanese games and developers were the best of the best in nes all the way to ps2 era. You knew you are in for a treat when the likes of square or capcom release their next big game.
Like it or not, but capcom and square are the only third party Japanese companies who can afford huge budgets for their games, something other Japanese developers can't cope with, but alas, these budgets are wasted on lackluster sequels and unwanted reboots and useless...
I really dig the rayman origin-esque artstyle.
People who are willing to buy on day one already made their minds, a week difference won't affect both consoles that much.
