I Agree with your comments about COD they really are just phoneing it in there but I don't think we need to be so pessimistic about the games industry. The Fable series, particularly this gen, is a good example of big names trying to innovate, Fable 3 looks like it is trying to reinvent the fable series and before that the same thing happened between F1 and F2.
Obviously these games still have their flaws (what game doesn't) but at least they make the effort. Games ...
Doesn't sound like a blatent rip off, sounds like the game is incorporating gameplay features that make the game more playbale. Some of the similarities they used were just ridiculus i.e. 360 degree combat, yeah AA has that but blade 2 on the PS2 had that also.
