Aside from the RPG element you've taken two completly different games and claimed that what works for one will work for another.
ES is a story driven experience, if theres another person running around in your world killing NPCs it kinda fucks up your story.

Off the top of my head I can only think of one reason not to have MP in an Elder Scrolls game.
Another person would be in YOUR world doing YOUR quests, it really takes away from the whole 'I'm an awesome hero' vibe if someone else is doing the heroing.
ME1 was out on console first then got a port so no that series was console focused from day one.
Those are some decent reasons and ive traded in plenty of games because of them, but games like the Elder Scrolls series and Fallout deserve more than one play through because different play styles change the game completly.

You're right graphics are important, but what most people are getting at is the fact that good graphics at the expense of varied and interesting gameplay is redundant.

For me it depends on the individual game, for instance; I dont give a rats arse about Bad Company 2's story I just wanna shoot shit up in multiplayer, but I love games like Dragon Age Origins and New Vegas for their story even though they arguably lack in the graphics department.
Here's what I took from the trailer, its on an island and theres zombies, people are dying as is routine when zombies attack. As its a teaser trailer theres no gameplay but all in all i'd say it presents the story's concept quite well.
