Elden ring brought self discovery back but it had so many repeated dungeon areas and bosses. Breath of the wild was similar but with more uninteresting activities for me.

Not sure. Helldivers looked more interesting than anything for MS this year...except perhaps avowed...but I love pillars of eternity so...little bias there.
Games as a service is a game that is purely playable only as a service. The question is if the game wouldn't be playable if the servers shut down.
Helldivers 2 is as much gaas as helldivers 1.
