These aren't hidden costs. I can agree with the SD Card because what comes with the system is next to nothing. But literally everything else on this list is optional and not required.

If you've played Outlast and have really been playing the demo then I'm not real sure how you can compare the two....
Its back to its roots because nearly everything from the original games is back, with the exception of a 3rd person perspective. Next to no ammo. Having to decide when to stand and fight or run. Herbs. Save rooms. Limited inventory space. Creepy, claustrophobic environments. The feeling of being severely under powered. Puzzles of varying difficulty. Monsters.

Im not sure the tech is the problem.
The only reason I havent bought one is because almost all the games are just quick 2 hour one and done experiences.
Put some full games out for it and I might consider. But these shoddy movie-like experiences are not worth the $400.

Most games have review embargoes these days. This isn't suspicious activity. Its become the norm.
Reading one review is not going to tell you anything. But when you look at a lot of reviews you can get a general idea of how good a game is.
You will always have weird sites giving bad games 9/10, or 10/10, but the majority of sites together would give a bad game like 5 or 6/10. The best way to go, that I've found, is to not let any one review sway you. Take them all and form an opinion. The majority of reviewers will be within in one or two points of each other, and ...

You play a character who goes looking for his missing wife, finds the mansion, finds a messed up, canabalistic half human, half zombie family and you have to escape while coming across clues as to what is really going on.
I mean, even a simple search of trailers on Youtube will tell you that....
