This is just the UK they're talking about. In emerging markets, a current gen console still costs less than a flagship smartphone, so buying a smartphone just for games clearly isn't an option in developing countries.

Um does the extra 180p really matter? Would it really be such a distinguishable difference? I mean considering the difference between 720p and 1080p, 900p would be an acceptable compromise now. It's not like PS4 games are going to be released in 4K resolution for the first few years.
Why the hell is this issue still being argued about? I say the media are the biggest hypocrites, using video games as an "easy target" for criticism when the exact same thing has been done in movies for decades. Smh.
This could be another case of people not caring about something until it's gone. Seriously how many of the purple complaining about it are actually going to use it? I for one won't.

Exactly. You don't see Sony bragging about their specs on the opposite end of the spectrum. They just show what their machine is capable of via the games themselves, which is what you're supposed to do anyway. You don't buy a console to stare at the spec sheet, you buy it to play games.
...Which was true for the first few years of this gen. Games only looked better on 360 because it was easier to develop for than PS3. Now that the gen is coming to a close, developers began to understand the cell architecture better, and so games looked the same, if not better, than 360. I expect the PS4's games to be the better looking of the two because it IS more powerful, and it is easier to develop for (than PS3).
It all depends on how the game is played with a wheel.
