I wish 200 bucks was free :P
@Phear
I agree the reason to purchase a Nintendo console is the first party games. But Nintendo definitely needs some kind of third party support, and developers need to figure out what games will sell well on nintendo platforms. Like Monster Hunter, for example.
I would pick Bayonetta 2 for the sheer depth of the combat. Although I will probably be playing Smash Bros for years to come.
I wish the sales were better, but progress is progress. Hopefully 2015 continues the upward trend.
Just makes me want to see what the Japs could do with the FPS genre. Vanquish outshines just about every other third person shooter i can think of.
The first LP had better multiplayer, and although people hate on LP2 it definitely had its appeal.
If you have a friend to play with, the co-op campaign of LP2 is super campy and fun.
I remember you could do the same in Lost Planet and Vanquish.
I'm glad you enjoyed the PS4 offerings this year. You must not have the most broad tastes if you hate 4 of the biggest, most critically acclaimed series in gaming. But to each his own, right?
For me it was
Sales: obviously PS4
Games: Wii U
And although i don't think the xbox one won either of those categories, it successfully re-established itself over the course of the year and had some good games to boot. I look for...
This article is talking about which console had the best line-up of 2014.
Nice comment. At this point, it is definitely a public perception issue and lack of awareness that Nintendo needs to fix.
@DarkAstronaut
Nintendo made a profit in their last report, why not post that?

Its a small profit, but a profit nonetheless.
And with the amiibo and Wii U software and hardware sales at record highs, they're on track to meet their estimate for the FY, which is a profit.

Yeah, Iwata's so bitter! /s
Lol, you say "can't do cutscene story telling" like it's a bad thing. They strive at making gameplay experiences, and they fund more story-focused games if they want them. I could just as well say Kojima CAN'T tell a story without relying on cutscenes. Fire Emblem, Xenoblade and Metroid are also all very story-driven games that don't need to rely on cutscenes more than gameplay, and are developed by Nintendo themselves...
"A good storyteller will use any tool he or she has at his or her disposal--the bad ones will just do the same thing over and over."
But if there isn't a story to tell, but a game to play, that isn't much of a factor.
Just curious, would you call Kojima a bad story teller considering he's been doing the same thing for 20 years in terms of reliance on cutscenes rather than other tools? Personally i would... he's got great stories, jus...
@BiggCMan
To each his own, but there's still a market for gameplay-first games. A big one. Sometimes people want to pick up a game and play. I played Lost Planet 2 recently which has an awful story that never even tries, yet very fun gameplay, but i am forced to sit through cutscene after cutscene just to get to the good. These days cutscenes are often fodder to increase playtime.
I like both types of games. Right now i'm playing persona 4 on ps2 and ...
Cutscenes arent an inherently bad thing but i agree that they totally break the flow. Half Life 2 for example never wrestled your control away (except once or twice) during cutscenes.
Honestly i agree, kirby games are too same-y and generic for me. Thats why i liked canvas curse.
The sad thing is this game will be running in beautiful HD on your tv and you'll be pretty much forced to look at the gamepad to accurately play it. In a way it seems better fit for the 3ds than the Wii U.
@Griever
Of course there are factors as to WHY it is stable, but how does that invalidate it? It's still a free service that very rarely experiences issues. I just find it funny that rather than admitting this point, you cook up a list of reasons and games you CAN'T play. I could list a bunch of games you can only play on the wii u, but it's clear i'd be wasting my time. Your facts are fine, you're the bitter one.
Yeah, let's only coun...
@Griever
You're right, i should be paying 60 bucks a year for a network that is always under maintenance, being DDOS'd or some other nonsense. I've been waiting forever now to play some Drive Club online and i can't.
I can't believe you're still going to find a way to knock a company for providing a stable online experience for FREE. That's a whole new level of incompetence
Ah, with all the fanboy squabble, its nice to see everyone on this site can come together to hate at least some things :D thats what Christmas is all about anyway!
If only nintendo included these features in the first place. I honestly think online NSMBU and SM3DW would've gone a long way in selling the wii u.
