Will probably be playing games until my hands are too gnarled to do so :P

@Shin

Who says you have to be nostalgic? Good games are good games.

Ugh 2017 is such a weird year to launch a console :P

@Yi-Long

Unfortunately i doubt that'll change... New Super Mario Bros on DS (a 10 year old game) still sells for nearly full price.

It doesnt apply to me since i buy anything i want at launch, but thats definitely a barrier that negates the cheapness of the system.

Yeah, 2/7 consoles :P

Their handhelds have a good history though.

To correct the author, there is also an optional first person cockpit view in star fox 64. It basically kills the framerate though if i remember right. Its nice that Star Fox isnt being outsourced and is back in Miyamoto's hands.

This reminds me, imagine a steel battalion game on wii u. The cockpit on the gamepad. Thatd be so damn cool.

I agree. But i dont understand your definition of Devil's Third as random trash. That game is the child of one of the industry's most acclaimed creators. Itagaki has massive cult appeal in Japan and the US. I doubt Devil's Third will be as successful as Ninja Gaiden or DoA, but considering it was probably going to die otherwise it was a good, probably cheap snag by Nintendo. Really, its no different than Bayonetta. It looked rough at E3 but i think nintendo just wanted to make it ...

I think it was Shu Yoshida who bought two wii u's.

@Foxtrot

Well, if they advertise it as a 2 in 1 console they can sell it for 400 max i'd say. And for that money it could be plenty more powerful than the vita, which is on the edge of being powerful enough to produce console quality gaming.

I'm sure they could find a way. The difficulty, i think, would be differentiating between games primarily built for the handheld portion and the console portion at retail.

Like all consoles, 20 years from now we'll see the games, not the droughts or the bad press or the online service. Even commercial failures like the Saturn or Turbo Grafx have respect post-mortem. And in that field the Wii U isn't doing too bad, but still not as good as the Gamecube did in the same timeframe.

The idea seemed dumb to me but now im for a hybrid handheld/console. If their software development studios could all work on the same console, there would be no ...

I really liked canvas curse but the new kirby game is way more suited for the 3ds. It'll probably be playing in beautiful 1080p on the wii u but you'll be forced to look at the gamepad if you want to be accurate.

@Minute Man

Really almost all of their problems can be rooted to the n64. The cartridge format led to memory shortage and high prices for developers and consumers, and the fact that they launched two whole years after the PS1 in japan and Europe and a year in NA gave sony and sega that much bigger of an advantage.

I bet if they went with the disk from the beginning (which they miserably tried to do near the end of the systems lifespan) and released closer to ...

Honestly gears 3 looks way better than judgement.

The real evolution was halo 3 to reach to 4. Halo 4 is just as impressive as U3 if you ask me. Not as much as TLOU, but still very good looking.

Oh it had a bigger impact for sure. I'm not debating that lol.

Ah, gotta love that obligatory jab at gamer gate when it serves no relevance whatsoever.

Mk8 was great, but GOTY, no way. I'd give that to Bayonetta 2 or Smash, assuming remasters are disqualified. Which they should be, if you ask me.

I dont have an Xbox one yet so i cant talk about its exclusives...

It sold okay relative to the install base. And considering it was a remake.

I'm positive the Wii U will be looked back on positively, regardless of sales. Some of the best games of their genre with Bayonetta 2, DK, SM3DW, and Smash. Also totally unique games like Captain Toad, TW101, and probably Splatoon.

All consoles have something to offer, i'm just sad to see these days Nintendo is getting the least credit for what it's got right: quality games.

I've seen a ton of positive ones lately, actually.

Being young (17) and super into games and female is a lot lonelier than i think most people would imagine. Most people my age who play games only play the surface-level stuff like COD or GTA or AC and nothing else. I don't know anyone in real life that i can have any meaningful conversation about game design or how games can move someone emotionally. Like on youtube i can watch a million channels where a few friends can sit and play through a whole game together, laugh at it or comment on...

That's sad to hear. But hey man, live and learn, right?

Games have universal appeal... its just hidden inside of some people lol. I agree with the author that games are a better way of bonding than a movie. A movie's the most passive interaction there is.

Especially in a theater where you can't fool around if the movie sucks...
