Why? I know they have their dark side. All big companies do. But have you ever stopped to think how much you can do for free because of Google? Just (the nearly prescient) internet searching and Youtube alone are massively useful facilities.

It's not about better; it's about compatible with what everyone is doing. Windows may not be the best, but it is the standard. That's extremely difficult to take away.

They can't. That's why it's more likely going to be something else entirely, like a streaming service with some hardware to support it. Online services are what they do, after all.

Only reviewers need to feel time pressure about the length of games. This is the one area where their assessment won't reflect what the rest of us want. I don't play a 200-hour game for 200 hours straight. I play it about as much per session as I do shorter games that I also enjoy. I just play it for many more days. The gift keeps on giving. And I'm often sad when I reach its conclusion, a month or two later, because I'll miss the game's world and the experience. Mo...

And I'd rather pay $60 for a brilliant 100-hour game. You present a false binary choice. Both quality and quantity matter. A spectacular bite-sized steak won't fill my belly.

Translation: They'll remove anything users say that they don't like. I'm sure that will lead to some spiffy freedom of expression.

They think our hardline stance on underage sex is weird, just like we think their hardline stance on drugs is weird. Cultural differences.

Why? I can run Epic games exactly as well as I can Steam games (or Origin, or Uplay . . .). These are just storefronts, not exclusive platforms like consoles.

“What’s wrong with that? A PC is a PC – who cares which store you get your games from? I’m just curious to learn the mind-set [sic]. I am a customer on lots of different PC platforms.”
- Randy Pitchford

I couldn't have said it better (except "mindset" is one word). It cracks me up to see so much hate for having to buy some PC games somewhere other than Steam. They all run on the same hardware, ffs.

I just browsed through a half-dozen sources on this, and none of them know what her role will be as VP. Destructoid speculates that it will involve the new Google gaming initiative; and that does make sense, but it's not confirmed.

- A woman in current political reality

Triple threat. Of course they snatched her up.

One scenario: Powerful desktop PC in your mancave; Big TV with connected Xbox in the living room. Add guests or family.

MS ported DX12 to Win 7? That surprises the hell out of me. That OS's support officially expires, when, pretty damn soon. Next year? (I forget the exact date.) Why would they bother with this now?

I'm all for it. Don't get me wrong. I'm just rather shocked.

I'd be curious to see how blockchain even relates to making better games. All I can think of is the monetization aspect, and that has nothing to do with better games. Let's see what the future brings.

Why would it be close to its end? It hasn't been out that long, and cutting-edge tech was never its focus to begin with.

FF music is copyrighted. Simple dances are not, and can't be. There's the difference.

And like all those people, you're way off the mark. Games sold on Epic are not exclusive in any real sense. They run on the same exact PCs that Steam, Origin and Uplay games run (just to name a few other storefronts). Exclusive is when you want to play God of War, but you only own an Xbox and a Switch. On the PC, you are not excluded from any PC gaming, regardless of storefront.

That looks a lot better than I thought it would. What I don't like is the extra-wide render aspect, because it stretches the 2D overlays sideways.

"AAA game development [financed by publicly held corporations] is becoming unsustainable."

There, fixed. Good AAA games make hundreds of millions of dollars, against a budget of around 100 million. They are plenty profitable, but still not profitable enough for stockholders who demand constant year-over-year growth in the double percentage digits. If we could somehow put some of the AAA space back into the hands of companies who just want to make good games, an...
