I haven't been around here much lately, because I've been - amongst the general grind of life, friends and family - PLAYING GAMES.
You should try that some time. Sales are irrelevant. Both MS and Sony are neck and neck. And the greater concern for me as a consumer, are the increasing tendencies toward on disc DLC, relentless micro-transactions, overpriced 6 hour games and ever inflating development budgets.
All this has made me step back as a consu...
On a related note, you know that there's something wrong with the industry and consumer awareness, when we think that $15 is some sort of steal.
Maybe it's because I have two mortgages now, or I'm just more aware of money and it's ups and downs, but $15 isn't cheap. That's 1/10 the grocery budget for the house for a week. Or 1/10 of the phone and cable bills. The one thing that I have come to appreciate more and more about MMOs, iOS and indie games...
That said, Resilience was a terrible mistake that should really just be removed from the game.
If they're worried about skill PVP/ PVE balance, just do a Guild Wars and assign them separate uses based upon situation (PVP/ PVE). It's much easier than trying to balance a skill to be fair for both situations.
From the horse's mouth. Those are your "exclusives". Honestly, console gaming is becoming more and more of a sham. Sony has some different 1st/ 2nd party software, Ninty too, but really the micro-transactions and the consumer's willingness to bend over and take the corporate shaft (from any of the big three), to prosthelytize the corporate shill makes me embarrassed to be a gamer at times.
I haven't bought a new game since Castlevania and I don't ...
Note to the writer: when trying to appear articulate and pedantic, don't use terms like "donkey balls" and "rape". They make you seem base and struggling to put on airs of intelligence.
Moving on. People in the industry really need to remind themselves that they are reviewing games FOR OTHER PEOPLE. Not themselves. The inability to separate personal taste from appeal is rampant in review circles.
There's also this bizarre nos...
And that's a generous estimate.
It was an interesting piece, worth a read for sure.
He did a follow up You-tube vid. And yeah, it was cool of Blizz to immortalize him in what is clearly his favorite lore.
but what's all this about PSN not having cross-game chat? I've had plenty of chats with friends in different games - both voice and text. Or is this not universal? Or supported by all games? And I don't mean exchanging messages, I mean using the "Start a New Chat" option. Isn't this X-game chat?
As opposed to the disagree fairy, if someone could answer this, that would be great.
But based on how games render, it usually means a larger panning-area/ landscape.
Boot up WOW or any other MMO in 480p, the switch to 1080p. There is a significant increase in the size of the view, depth and detail.
I'm not saying that you're wrong, just that you're both 1/2 right :)
Devices are headed toward a convergence. One device that does multiple (or "every") things. So a 1080p handheld/ phone/ pda/ whatever that you run about with all day, then plug into your tv (or via wireless HDMI) when you get home is a neat idea.
Not sure if the PSP2 will be the manifestation of this idea, but it's inevitable that we will see a device like this in the next 2-5 years.
AGAIN. For pretty much every manufacturer.
Edit: @ below (if that was toward me - if not, ignore). They have MS as having SOLD (estimated in the hands of consumers) 44 million even, they do not estimate shipping figures. MS reported having SHIPPED 44 million and some change. Now if this is the extent of Major Nelson's comment taken from MS, then VGC are wrong, again.
was in thinking that VGChartz was a reliable source of information - for ANY of the console manufacturers.
PS2 is nearing in on being under-tracked by 9 million on that site. Seriously when your business is estimations and you're off by 9 million units, you might want to pick a different profession.
Lately there has been a great deal of back-peddling on their "figures".
Well done on a decent digital transaction. That said, the player-base will be beta testing the game for about a month after release, as is the norm :)
See you all in Azeroth! (Yes, I'm back "on" the WOW)
I think it's even more ridiculous as the Wii, which as least had the benefit of being "innovative" (despite what motion technologies pre-dated the Wii, it was the first to really push motion for the mainstream - it wasn't an accessory, it was part of the experience from the get-go). That said, it will probably sell regardless, for several reasons. Let's examine those reasons (as I see them):
- Our TV Lord and Saviour Oprah has endorsed it, as well as...
It's been out for over a year in Japan and has heaps of DLC. I do love the rather traditional D&D, pen and paper sort of feel to these RPGs. Reminds me of the old D&D computer games (Krynn series was my favorite), with a little Japanese flair thrown in. The Wizardrys released in the US were also quite good.
I would have preferred a cart racer or cooking sim (if I had to choose between various $hitty options). A gambling game? C'mon!
but I'm sure that they've cleaned up the engine on consoles too.
I hope that these same people realize that if/ when Kinect is a commercial success (probably "when" as Her Holiness Oprah has now endorsed it), expect even LESS support than what Nintendo gave the hardcore for the first 2 years of Wii-existence, as MS will drop the core like an ugly girlfriend to milk the casuals' wallets. MS is a business, a very competitive one interested in monopolization and the bottom line at any cost - their history attests to this. So if the casuals rea...
That was very clever, soundslike.
I don't think that anyone with the smallest measure of sense thought that Kinect was going to fail with a 500 million dollar advertising budget and endorsements from Oprah, Ellen and Justin Bieber.
What exactly am I in denial about? Omega's proven, rabid obsession with sales figures? Check out his comment history. His frequent daily posts? Again, see the above. Step one is recognizing that you have a problem.
Dance Central IS fun, but personally...
