At least Sony met their goal and are tracking well. My store for example sold through all our left over stock from Christmas almost immediately before Horizon hit. We still have Xbox Ones from Christmas kicking around. Also at least Sony and Nintendo aren't afraid to show their numbers. Whereas Xbox pretends to be relevant and hide behind 'engagement' and other stupid metrics.

Xbox One was a worldwide release to 13 countries. So nowhere near as impressive as the PS4 release.

It matters less if the price isn't right. The vanilla systems will still be more appealing to the casual fanbase. Price, Games and where their friends are more determining factors for a purchase than the resolution. Especially if the price does end up $500+
