remember that you have to take into consideration that the majority of 9800GTX benchmarks were done using beta drivers so its safe to say that when more mature drivers start rolling out we will see some significant performance upgrades for the 9000 series
still right now the 8800GTS 512 is the top of the line in single GPUs you can get specially when you see that in benchmarks its around the same performance than the 88000 Ultra that retailed a few months ago for 600-700 bucks ...

I would recommend
if you are VERY low on found but what to upgrade to play new games at a decent level get the 9600GT that right now is in 150 but in a few months will be even more cheap and you get all the benefits from the 9000 series apart of even more performance later on when the drivers mature more
if you have a slightly better budget get the 8800GT that will allow you to play the newer games in higher res and some extra options enable compared t the 9600GT...
In my experience with Crysis in both DX9 and DX10:
DX10 in Crysis is probably one of the few games were the extra DX10 effects can be easily noticed apart from the DX9 version from the extra layer of sharpnes in certain textures to the super realistic blur effects that are ultra predominant when you run super fast or there is a explosion but in my experience sometimes it makes the character look as he was drunk or tripping on acid XD the only con of DX10 is the performance hit ...

I guess this is the effect of the "calm" after the buying storm of the 8800GTs and GTSs, I guess NVIDIAs stock wont sky rocket (again) until the full 9000 series lineup hits retail...and people go crazy again XD
well depending on the game we have already seen games sell more in Digital form than in disc form, form example Crysis and even Sins of a Solar Empire were despite the huge retail sales the devs said that even better sales were found thru downloads
the pricing is also a problem, older games retail for VERY cheap and even in combo DIRTY cheap but new launches seem to retail for a similar price (some times a few bucks off) to the disc version which is stupid...at least STEAM give...
Digital download has actually shifted a LOT of market in PC gaming away from retail stores
so it could potentially be the future of PC gaming as we have seen the now more and more publishers seem to be putting their libraries in Digital Download form (like STEAM) and many high profile games are being put from launch which tells us its a pretty lucrative business
@cputeq: sadly you couldn't be more wrong, our Bethesda "pals" yet again have exchanged pretty much EVERYTHING of the original Fallout gameplay for their classic mainstream simplicity and easy satisfaction/gain type of gameplay
sadly there is no more turn based combat now its a basic 1st/3rd person shooter mechanics and the whole turn based points effect system has been replaced with twitch gameplay as they did with Oblivion

WOW! REAL scans? nah we all know real scans are done with a crappy camera and the most blurry they are the more legit and pro the job is XD
