More speed is cool, but still no battle arenas? Am I the only one bothered by this?
Many of these remasters can end up subjectively worse than the original with regard to graphics and soundtracks, e.g. the remodelled character faces and musical score in FFX.
Sometimes they can even end up objectively worse, when you have cut content and censoring etc where it's clear that no care was taken with it, e.g. Silent Hill.
I'm all for good remakes of good games that provide tangible improvement such as better framerate, but it's still a...
you know what he means
The first Dragon's Dogma is actually one of the few PS3 games I'd like to see remastered - first because I never got to play it, but secondly because it would benefit hugely from improved framerate.
Just give us battle arenas
There's nothing to worry about here.
Kojima's games can be treated in a self contained storyline. If some new director wants to introduce Liquid Snake 2.0 made from from nanomachines and Otacon's arse, then so be it. Worse things have happened in gaming.
Alternatively, there's still scope for a MGS1 remake, or even a MG remake, or some game focused on The Boss etc.
And get over your hate for MGS2 and Raiden. The game was amazing.
Chrono? Mana?
This. You can play MW2 right now on PC in native 1080p of higher, still in 60fps (maybe even higher).
Were there any graphics mods for this game? By default it looked better than the console versions anyway.
The only argument for re-releasing MW2 is that it would re-populate the online servers
But 8/10 = "Great" according to IGN
It's literally written in huge black letters in their review ffs
You'll get your Banjo-Threeie from Playtonic Games
If MK8 had a proper battle mode then it would be best.
The reaction to The Order 1886 reviews puzzled me a bit;
When they came out, I thought that just maybe, mainstream reviews were finally entering an era where short games that overuse QTE's would actually get penalised regardless of production values.
Then, reading comments on this site, people have decided that NOW reviewers have become out of touch. Not last gen when every second game was getting 9+/10 despite being totally forgettable, but NOW. You have to question what ...
Yep. With this trajectory, the gaming industry could be slowly heading for another crash if enough people wake up to the fact that more and more big budget games are becoming like movies that are only slightly more interactive, but with less interesting story and inferior visuals.
The Walking Dead is basically a QTE game. I would say that's an example of putting a disproportionate focus on story over gameplay.
I'm all for a good story in a game, as long as gameplay comes first. Movies will always be better at being movies.
Half-Life was always a good example. Uncharted also has the right idea - a good, intentionally B-movie story that works, while still being fun to play.
eww
Who is sending them the message that they want more modern day stuff?
Yeah I remember seeing things like "Square reveals TGS 2010 lineup". I click on the article in anticipation. First comment: "No Final Fantasy Versus XIII". I die a little inside.
Do you mean Playtonic? They are the former Rare developers working on Project Ukulele, a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie.
If we could get Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 on PS4 at 1080p60fps, I would praise the sun so hard.
Mainstream journalists and reviews have been compromised and unreliable for a long long time, which is how we've ended up with this paradigm where scores below 8 have been generally considered 'bad', while games with big budgets have gotten inflated scores despite having shallow gameplay.
To be honest, I was surprised to see The Order get average (or 'bad' according to the current paradigm) scores that actually reflected its gameplay quality.
IF t...
And framerate
