a digital future means more control over consumers. right now consumers can influence pricing and producers dont like that. if a game is horrible the second hand market will drop the price because so many people return the game, which in turn forces the new copies to lower the price to stay competitive. without this consumers either take whats given or they dont get it.

in many cases they are, consumers have rights also. for instance gamestop cant just rewrap a game in plastic, it would be misleading to consumers and they would most definitely be refunding anyone who said they wanted a new copy.

i know that i dont buy many games at full price anymore, they just dont offer enough. maybe if they promised to give me a lot of free dlc with a $60 purchase i would buy more, but right now i cant spend $60 on something that i might like, but doesnt have much content even if i do like it.

the clueless morons running the companies have to give reasons for losses or lower than expected sales, if they went out and said that they were blatantly doing a bad job, that they werent meeting their numbers because of their own mistakes then they would be fired. if they say that the problem is something thats partly out of their control, ala the used market, they can keep their jobs.
