Because as you can see, fighting the media is bad PR, because the media controls the narrative. The last thing devs & publishers want is to put themselves in the gunsights of the media.
I loved Killzone 2 and 3, SF was kind of a disappointment. I expected it to be better because of the 4-way touchpad control options and how they would implement strategy into the gameplay (the OWL, the force field, the zipline, etc.) That feature looked so awesome and it really opened the doors to revolutionize the gameplay of the series, and in a lot of ways, it truly did, some of the strategy and action in the game is just downright amazing because of that, but the problem is, the level d...
There is an entire page & a half more games on Metacritic for PS4 than there are for Xbox One. People are constantly dismissing PS4 games as if they don't count, or don't matter, but the fact is, the PS4 has more games than the Xbox One, and it has more highly rated games.
Titles Rated TOTAL
PS4: 131
XBO: 85
Titles Rated GREEN (Good)
PS4: 71 (54%)
XBO: 42 (49%)
Titles Rated YELLOW (Mediocre)
Nothing to get worked up about. This is nothing new. In the 90s there was Postal and Carmageddon, etc. Not sure why people are suddenly shocked over this kind of thing.
The problem is that this website isn't saying they'll stop reviewing Nintendo games. They're saying they'll stop covering them at all. I don't need their review to learn about the game. The review in videogames "journalism" these days is just one guy's opinion and hardly a relation of the objective facts and context about a game that would lead someone like me to understand if it's a game I might enjoy or not. Just because this guy hates or loves the ...
"[We] will not be able to continue to offer [coverage] without review materials as it comes down to free advertizing otherwise. ... While I do not agree with the pay for play approach, publishers need to understand that there is a cost for coverage"
I have a serious problem with this line of thinking. You guys are supposed to be *JOURNALISTS*! Your readers want to know about all of the games coming out. We need this information so we can have an idea of what we w...
@Giantbomb82, yeah, you didn't play The Last of Us, did you? It's a survival game. You get limited resources. You often have to rely on stealth. The world is also a lot more interactive, with climbing and exploration mechanics that weren't present in Gears. The two might look in some arbitrary videos of the games to play similarly because they both have cover mechanics, but The Last of Us plays completely different and requires completely different strategies, it really isn...
@gamerfan0909, are you for real? You think Gears of War was more innovative than Demon's Souls (Dark Souls, as Edge puts it, but whatever)?
It was so innovative that it's hard to even quantify or put into words what it did differently. The whole souls as experience & currency thing was unique when coupled with the "die and lose it all, but you get 1 chance to go back to the location of your death and recover it" system. That was definitely a unique, f...
I agree with Foxtrot. They put COD4 on the list instead of any of the others that have come since and have had more features, game modes, etc. Because the first Modern Warfare was the one that revolutionized it and paved the way for the others. It's the same reason why Grand Theft Auto 4 is on that list instead of GTA5. It's why Portal is on the list instead of Portal 2. It's why Super Mario Galaxy is on the list instead of SMG2. It would be one thing if it was one of those ...
Hard to argue with Dark Souls at #1 for me personally, though Demon's Souls was better in my opinion.
Where is Uncharted 2? That game was purely brilliant from top to bottom and is most likely one of the most influential games of the generation in terms of how designers are making single-player story-campaign experiences in action games ever since.
LittleBigPlanet is unquestionably a better and more important game than Bayonetta, and it's an effing j...
Wow, I didn't realize Dust was even coming to Playstation. That's cool. I will try it soon!
Honestly that's a lot more than I would have guessed.
@Enemy, those two words were literally my exact thought when I saw the score. Then I saw your comment, and thought I'd mention it haha.
Polygon get off on being contrarian. I won't give them my click.
The first one didn't deserve a 10, and I'm pretty confident this one won't either, but I *am* very excited to play it. I liked the first game a whole lot!
I have never heard anyone call the Souls games "clunky" in control, and I disagree with that 100%.
The guy playing making it look easy doesn't mean that it isn't ACTUALLY easy also. It looks easy as hell. That boss moves very slowly, it takes a long time to finish an attack, it telegraphs every move like 3 seconds in advance, it's just plain and simply an easy looking fight.
This game doesn't hold a candle to Bloodborne. It looks ridiculously unpolished, and the boss they showed looked so freaking easy. Where's the challenge?
Game doesn't impress me at all. Poor texture work, tons of screen tearing, and a few bugs that stood out easily make it look unpolished.
Besides that, the gameplay just looks unexciting.
That Fire Warden boss at the end looked so EASY. Dark Souls, this is not.
This boss telegraphed every move like 3 full seconds in advance, it moves slow as hell, its attacks took forever to execute and were easy to dodge, and it doesn't close the d...
Really happy that Driveclub "lite" will be available to PS+ members on October 8. That snuck up on me, that's sooner than I thought we'd get it for PS+ members! Not sure why, because that's pretty much when it comes out in stores, so it makes sense, but good on Sony for getting it out to PS+ so close to the game launch.
I like that we still get all other PS+ selections normally as well, and this is in ADDITION to the normal stuff we get each month. Ve...
Demon's Souls is my #1 favorite game of all time. After the alpha for Bloodborne, I'm not sold on it being as good, yet. I like Demon's Souls for a lot of reasons, I mean, a game doesn't become someone's all-time favorite for no reason! Bloodborne is similar in a lot of ways, but at the heart of the matter is that it's a different game. Dark Souls WAS Demon's Souls. Essentially, I mean. Mechanically, gameplay-wise, there is no difference. Dark Souls is to De...
