My guess is that Playstation fans have been asking for a Mascot fighter in the mold of Super Smash for years and years now .... and they probably never once really thought about asking for a God of War clone from a 3rd party. They already had Goddess of War , Conan , and some others as well as the beast known as God of War.
That's probably the main difference.
I'm sure they don't mind catching many unsuspecting casuals with a lower priced console , then having them upgrade later ... lol. Works for Microsoft.

There's still EVO , Comic-con , Gamescom , and TGS which could coincide with announcements and interviews.
Why would a company want to blow their load and reveal everything at once ? Lol. A steady stream of character reveals and stages would work well for this type of game. You're always creating anticipation for the next reveal or leak.
Jak is obviously in (derp derp) , but Cloud could make the roster as well. They are just going by the description of blonde hair and goggles , so it could be either one.
It's not called Sony exclusive IP All-Stars , it's called Playstation All-Stars and they have confirmed 3rd party characters and recently announced Big Daddy. Old Snake is rumored as well.
Both Jak and Cloud would be relevant.

There's plenty of interesting new things to get into like LittleBigPlanet , Braid , Mirror's Edge , Journey , Portal , Heavy Rain , Fez , Demons Souls , Super Meat Boy , etc , etc. It's deep well.
Good shooters only represent a small fraction of what's really avaiable to gamers. If people would spend more time playing the games than concerning themselves with something so trivial and uninformed as "too may shooters" .... they ma...
I heard they were limiting the roster to one character per series , so don't expect characters like Dr.Nefarious or multiple Final Fantasy characters in this one.
