This should be PS4s weakest year for exclusives but I can still see PS4 dominating sales for the rest of the year. I can't see Xbox One taking back NA, PS3 was an aberration in that region.
From Sonarus. 'Xbox has ONE card it can play but still might not work. There are a lot of 360 owners yet to upgrade primarily because of price and lack of compelling games'.
A lot of people, like me, moved from Xbox 360 to PS4. My main reason is that I play mainly multi plats and I want the best version of the game. But also Xbox Ones reception was so poor. On the flip side, I bet there are heaps of PS3 owners yet to upgrade.
I think Destiny will do big things for PS4 sales. Sony is pretty much marketing it as an exclusive so the game should be the biggest seller on PS4 and the Destiny PS4 bundle should sell strongly.
I can't see game streaming being feasible world wide within the next 15 years or so. Internet speeds and expensive data caps are the limitation in many countries. I also think the lag will be an issue. There are so many complaints online with games being only 30fps, with inherently less responsiveness than 60fps, how is the latency ever going to be acceptable for twitch FPS or racing games? I just think the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages. I dread the thought of only being able ...
Did you even read the story? The retailer Dick Smith has an ebay store and are selling if for $399 after discount. They have sold thousands of PS4s over the last week.
The year should have one of the biggest and best gaming lineups ever. Starting early next year with Dying Light, Witcher 3, Batman Arkham Knight and Evolve etc.
Wish the term indie wouldn't be used. It is pigeon holing games like No Man's Sky which in sheer scope is bigger than many AAA games.
Looks great, just need Sony to certify it so it can be released. Sick of waiting.
I think Indy is the wrong term for WiLD. It is a huge open world game and looks as promising as any AAA game. It's a AA game?
I'd argue that titles like No Man's Sky and WiLD are not indies, they are open world games by smaller developers with smaller budgets. These games are blurring the lines between AAA and Indy. But in sheer size and scope I would argue that they are bigger than many AAA titles. There is plenty of AAA titles coming, its just that Sony are holding back information, probably for E3 next year.
I'm really looking forward to this and WiLD next year.
Agree, Sony has No Man's Sky and WiLD, for example, that are innovative and look incredibly promising. I also wouldn't call them Indies.
Would have been the perfect time today at the SOE Planetside 2 keynote to announce a beta date. I suspect there will be a beta late this year with a release first quarter next year. Sony are lucky their competitors have had difficulties, otherwise all these game delays would have been costly.
Will be interesting to see which approach works better later in the year but Sony has so much momentum right now I think they will continue to lead in sales. In saying that, Microsoft can build some momentum of their own as the Xbox 360 used to sell a lot of consoles Oct-Dec each year and Microsoft should bring on a marketing blitz for their exclusives.
H1Z1 and Everquest Next haven't even been released on PC yet. My bet is 2016 and 2017 respectively considering the massive delay in releasing Planetside 2.
I'm not convinced it will be out this year. Sony have said there will be a beta before release and Sony didn't announce a date for either at the SOE Planetside 2 keynote today. The game was one of the reasons I bought a PS4 and the massive delay is very disappointing. It was originally announced to be released in the PS4 'launch window' but obviously that was totally unrealistic.
Project Cars has a day-night cycle and weather modelling, unlike a lot of other racers. Its not all about the number of polygons per car, its about all the other graphical elements as well. But you'd rather troll in this thread wouldn't you.
But is it still coming this year? The lack of information from Sony regarding the beta and release date is beyond ridiculous.
Great blog. I think Sony are playing the long game. 2014 is sewn up by PS4 even with limited exclusives. Destiny will drive PS4 sales and having the best version of multi plat games will also help. Love games like WiLD, Sony is really encouraging the development of innovative new games so PS4 will have the best variety of games as well as the most games. The icing on the cake for Sony, in my view, is SOE. They have confirmed Planetside 2 and H1Z1 for PS4 and Everquest Next will inevitably fo...
So you see game streaming possible at 4K resolution? Maybe this is the future but I can't see game streaming ever offering the response times and picture quality of gaming using a console. There will always be more latency and artifacting through game streaming and I don't think gamers will accept it as the only way to game considering the obsession with graphics and game controller responsiveness. I would much prefer a conventional console minus a disc drive to game streaming.
