Rumble or even Immersion's new tech is a long ways off fellas....like this time next year maybe. If you think M$ is getting blasted for updating a HDD and HDMI (really the only thing new), wait until Sony goes back and adds Rumble type tech. How will all of us who are first-gen adapters get upgraded to Rumble? I guess it will be just like with my X360...I've bought the new unit to get HDMI and 4 new black controllers. I hope I don't have to buy a new Sony unit to get rummble, but I know I...

MS will be giving away HD-DVDs at sub $100 prices if the trend is kept up. They will sell at those prices. And if Blu-Rays get there, they will sell as well. With I predict, the cheap combo player taking the cake. :-) In the end, they should only sell the best video standard (1080P, 120Hz), just like they should only sell PS3 60G and X360 Elites. Finally, Wii should update to a WiiVolution HD piece of equipment and keep the funky interface. All of it should be connected by HDMI v. 1.4 ...

What all of the Sony fanboys don't seem to realize is that the lowering of the price of the HD-DVD drive can only help them out. As the prices of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray fall rapidly, just like the commodities they are, the price of the PS3 will be FORCED to fall SELLING more units and developing a larger user base.

LOWER PRICES are GOOD for everybody!!

and it should detail people's setups. Kinda like car-audio guys (I admit my car systme cost $4k) have with sounddomain.com.

I am curious to see what type of rigs people have set up in their homes. It's okay to brag about it in words, but unless you show it in pics, no one knows whether you're just spouting off or not. I would love to upload photos of my setup with the 65 inch LCD, Denon AVR, Martin Logan electro-stats, high-end cables, my Ninty Wii, X360 (premium and ELITE- ...

But you're right. You have to be an exec, lawyer or doc to afford these systems fully decked out. If I didn't have a 6-figure, I couldn't afford it.

Seriously, HDMI v. 1.3 requires lots of horsepower!!

At the very least, you will need an A/V receiver in the cost range of $3500 - $5000. The Top of the Line Denon AVR-4306 will be upgraded first, as is custom. Bear in mind that this receiver selling at discount houses is still $2k!! I have one, and it has no ...

to extend on Bladestar's line of thought.

The market for consumption in a given format is growth limited. That is DVD is limited to the number of people times the amount of content produced. What is not unlimited is number of times formats can change and the attrition rate of those various formats (scratches, data breakdown, etc.

What the public will soon realize is this. If I can download it, not have to go anywhere and not wait on it to arrive in the mail, why no...

High Density DVDs are probably unnecessary in the long-term and will likely die a horrible death. Why? It's all about DRM and content owners wanting to get paid. I am an IP attorney for a large firm, and these are some of the ideas that I know to be touted.

First off, Downloading is already here. I download high-def movies on HBO Demand from Time Warner cable all the time. I record them right to the built-in harddrive. It is easy. It is here to stay....my grandmother knows h...

I have ALL of the GAME SYSTEMS and I am the BIGGEST GAME FAN on N4G.

I contend (only my contention, if you're a bigger fan of gaming than me, STATE WHY and BACK IT UP!) that I am the only TRUE GAMER on N4G:

Nintendo Wii (I own it!)
PS3 (without rumble) (I own it!)
XBOX 360 Premium (I own it!)

XBOX 360 Elite (Paid Off, waiting on delivery!!!)

PS3 with Rumble (Sony where's the love!!) (I will own it!)...

I really wish this site would return to just putting out good information and answering questions. The rabid fanboyism is useless. This sort of dialogue only serves to steer folks away from picking up a console. It is as bad as the new DVD war. Let's advance the cause of gaming....not trash it.

it is my understanding that 1080P can be output for games through component video cables???

I don't know why folks are so excited about an incomplete connection standard. HDMI v1.3 has not been fully implemented anywhere to my knowledge. If someone has done a full 1.3 implementation, please state your equipment, the cost and where you picked it up.

Finally, I would really like to have rumble for my PS3...how do I get it or where is it? Didn't Sony settle their ...

It's much worse than that.

Anybody know when Sony will be releasing those rumble controllers and putting an IPTV function in their system?

I've been looking to pick up Sony Rumble controllers. Are they out yet? I could really use them on my racing games for my PS3.

By the comments of many here, you would think that everyone here has multiple HDTVs lying around their house. Most folks don't even have one. While the adoption rate is going up. We still have a long ways to go before critical mass of 1080P sets. I'm even sitting the 1080P sets out for the time-being and I'm a lawyer with a nice salary. Right now, with the uncertainty in digital formats (don't need 1080P nor does anybody broadcast regular tv in that format plus not to mention the 120Hz t...

No one can predict the future success of high definition media. The problems are evident in the level of adoption for high definition CD audio. Further, the ability to utilize such media has not been realized nor will it be for some time by the public. These statements of domination and game over are sheer fantasy. The numbers being cited are drops of water in the ocean of DVDs.

The next person to post needs to do so with facts or verifiable sources. Further, they should...

Here's my post from earlier...just think about it and ask what is most likely to happen. What has happened to the CD? Can't be sure, but my point is to keep a very open mind and expect the unexpected. There are known unknowns and unknown unknowns....this will likely turn out different from our own biased notions whichever way we feel...want it, hate it, or don't care....the truth is nobody knows and its a scary time to be an early adopter unless you have money to burn. And even with my sa...

Since the advent of DISC based media, only the CD and DVD formats have been successful. I am not convinced that DVD is not also replaceable by downloading. But you've got to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges.

Downloading is currently used mostly with regular CD quality or worse in terms of musical fidelity. But, long before downloading ever became mainstream, several advanced forms of CD tried and failed.
The real question to ask here is simply this...c...
