LOL, it said they were going to drop the price of their competitor's console, must be a joke or something, if so the article title is misleading

"Whilst UK SCEE boss, David Reeves, revealed to the Guardian recently that the price drop many had asked for since 2008 could not be delivered due to profit margins on the PS3, Rupert feels that Sony Australia is in a unique postition to combat this."

"As with SCEE Europe, we aren't in a position to drop the p...

People need to just use the Gamer and Open Zone as it was intended to be used (to bad it's not enforced). The problem is people post in both areas, without thinking about it so if your going to bash or leave fanboy comments use the open zone. Hopefully it will get better.

It really doesn't matter what the user rating is, it's not weighted into the critic score so it doesn't count.

I agree and would add, people also have a perception of what a gaming system should be and based on Nintendo's advertising they so it as being fun and something anyone at any age can do.

It will continue to sell, why most causal and non gaming folks want to entertain themselves for 30min to 1 hour a few days a week without really having to learn the controls or commit to a game and Wii Sports fits that bill. That's why the Wii is selling so good without any big hits like the 360 or PS3.

The folks that will be buying it in the future are non-gamers and casual PS2 owners (there is still a large PS2 base out there). So expect numbers to continue to grow for Wi...

A recession affects everything and especially electronics that are higher priced then lower priced ones. People still want the items but due to job fears or losses they have to spend less so get similiar or cheaper items. That's why in these times high end tv sales drop and low end tv sales soar, it's about getting the best bang for your dollar on a budget. Sony is just in a bad spot like other companies now, it's unfortunate jobs are cut, but it happens, that's why companies restructure w...

I'm looking foward to a Profile 2.0 player for around $150. I bought a 360 HDDVD for $150 with a bunch of free movies. I'm glad bluray prices have dropped to around $150-200. I think for Sony, bluray sales helps but I think they get a cut of the profits or fees, there are other folks that help found the groups so it's not all to Sony. They also have to payback the money they spent on the bluray investment which and eventually will be making some huge dollars. In the short term it won't s...

@4.3 I don't think PS3 owners really have a choice. Once you get the system you just have to have faith in Sony to provide the games, that doesn't mean your not annoyed that you have to wait, you just go do other stuff.

I don't think they are doing bad, for a $400 system I think they are doing ok, but I think they overestimated the amount of PS2 owners that were going to switch and buy a PS3 or folks buying it for movies. Bluray is taking off but players can be bought now for $150 so it helps Sony in the long run with bluray but not the PS3. That was the player to get when all the players where $399, but now it's about watching bluray for a cheaper price. I hope it still works out for Sony in the end, com...

Why would the cut the price with the release at the same time with Killzone 2 or a few weeks after that? It's going to be Sony's huge exclusive in 2009 - at least in the first half. So that title alone will sell consoles without a price cut. If there is going to be a price cut it will be a few months off of that closer to the summer months.

The MS one said they outsold the PS3 during a specific time frame and this one is implying they are still in the lead in overall base by 300k. So I don't think anyone is lying, just people are interpreting it differently. Just read the words don't add to it.

The "gaming industry" seems recession proof from a recent article posted at N4G. MS and Sony have other products such as software and movies that are not. So it's not the entire company that is recession proof. You guys realize the actual stock certificates are worth less then a penney. The price of a stock is basically what the initial IPO (company and broker) think they can get from them based on company performance and the market, then the rest is based on performance, supply...

Microsoft buying back stock is normal for a company with lots of cash, they buy low then sell high to generate profits. Yes, companies buy and sell stock too to generate money just like you and I would. It also gives the company more control back when they own more shares of stock. MS stock is flat because MS is controling the stock, if you look at the the transactions you will see a good volume of purchase of MS both buying and selling keeping the stock stable. If you check SEC filings y...

Why are you guys getting a hissy fit over this. MS reports
shipped number which to them are sold numbers (sold to suppliers of retailers or retailers direct). The same goes for Sony and Nintendo. I highly doubt each company waits for every retailer including mom and pop electronic stores to report back retail sold information. It takes time to compile this information then present it in financial reports and I'm pretty sure their accounting departments are pretty busy with other fi...

Does anyone have load times for HD installs on Xbox Live for online play? I do notice at times when playing Gears 2 or Rainbow Six 2, that textures are still loading when your starting a level or map and it takes 5-10 seconds for it to catch up. I think HD installs it will make this go away, just curious.

At the minimum, installs will prevent discs from scratching up as much, quiet the box down, lessen the wear and tear on the dvd player. Just a good overall option, in my o...

The task bar is similiar/enchanced off of XP. Though, I would like it look more OS X like in appearance, makes the OS look cleaner but still a beast under the hood.

I agree I think Vista is pretty good with stability. There was a time when it first came out when migrating from Xp to Vista that turned a lot of folks off (lack of drivers, software, errors, etc.)

The other issue is that Windows is very configurable that's why you can break your system fairly easy by installing different programs also getting viruses. It's why the Mac OS is more stable because you can only add so much to it (smaller library size), where in Windows you can pu...
