The one major mistake that both Microsoft and Sony are making is assuming that casul gamers and people that use their PS3s and Xbox360s mainly for apps like netflix are already perfectly happy with their current machines.
Consider this : the previous generation of games consoles - PS2 and Xbox - did not have apps like netflix and Facebook etc. The current consoles do.
These factors among others mean that many casuals will opt to keep their PS3s and 360s ins...

considering I bought a new 250 gig PS3 super slim to take advantage of all the free PSplus games I will be playing and using my PS3 for years.
Another reason I support Sony is their commitment to supporting their game consoles for the long term.
Sony just recently stopped supporting the PS2 and it did not feature online apps like Netflix wich the PS3 is the number 1 device for netflix.
The PS3 will be around for a long time.
The fact is that Microsoft has been moving toward the casual market since the Kinect was introduced.
Microsoft was lucky this generation with the fact that both the Xbox360 and Xboxlive were supported by Call of Duty and Halo fans. without those two franchises the Xbox brand would be dead in the water.

Those type of gamers are not loyal to Microsoft or Xbox they just like Call of Duty.
I was on Xboxlive for over 3 years and when you look at the majority of the Call of Duty players gamertags list of games played they show that those types of "gamers" play A LOT OF COD and almost NOTHING else.

Microsoft lost a lot of support from longtime hardcore gamer with their push on Kinect.
I have always known that Sony understands the hardcore gamers and the long term value of keeping a loyal fanbase satisfied with AAA "core " based games like Uncharted and God of War.
When was the last time Microsoft sent Xboxlive subcribers $10 credit like Sony just did for the PS plus members ?
I used my $10 credit on Final Fantasy 7 and some dlc ...

Halo , gears of war and an outdated overpriced online service called Xboxlive will not be enough in the next generation for Microsoft to hold what momentum Call of Duty and Halo gave them this gen.
Microsoft will have to do something drastic like making Call of Duty exclusive to Xbox to have a fighting chance against Sony next generation.

I have no doubt that the Wii U is fully capable of some very nice graphics also. Maybe slightly above the PS3 when maxed out.
The problem with the Wii U is its overall capabilities with AI and processing when compared to the PS4 and the Xboxnext.
I dont see games like Battlefield 4 being made for the Wii U because of the less power...

The Infamous 3 demo looked great and Killzone 4 was good too.
Sony finally took notes from the game developers and are providing them will a powerful well rounded tool to create incredible next gen games with.

The Playstation 3 is an incredible entertainment machine - Blue Ray , easy access to netflix and many other great apps that do not require an additional subscription to use.
As a gaming machine I find the Playstation brand to be far superior to Microsofts Xbox since the Playstation consoles provide a much broader gaming experience with a wide variety of genres for all types of gamers from God of War and Uncharted to Liittle Big Planet, Grand Turismo and Killzone.

Always online will not work for the single player gamers that still enjoy great single player focused games like Skyrim , Metal Gear , God of War and traditional RPGs among many others.
There are still millions of gamers out there that have little interest in online gaming.
