well many kids i see playing DS are far too young to even know or care about piracy also the DS has established its self for a long time now in the console market. the install base is there and i can't see sales being affected. this is only useful to people who just want to catch up on games they missed on the DS before buying nintendo's next handheld which is what i think nintendo should be working on right now
if they do nintendo will benefit. i think if sony is smart they should invest more into psn and gaikai and head towards digital because you cannot have used copies of digital games as is the case with pc gaming. the use of DRM helps absolutely no one.
microsoft should have instead of using drm and making the console connect to the internet every 24hrs have made it so that each games has a registration code that comes with it and you only need to use the internet once to enter...

not sure where you have been. a decent part of the conference was dedicated to gaikai. also they clearly stated what their vision was with gaikai and the functionality they want from it they also made it obvious that it is still a working progress and that the service will develop over time by saying things like "we are exploring different ways.."

i think hackers will find more use for this device. i wonder though, i thought MS said it could be used with pc aswell how much freedom would they allow the consumer to have if it works with pc. if microsoft is smart they would allow hackers and devs to do whatever they like with kinect on pc in the hope that someone will come up with something amazing and they can benefit from that rather than not allowing devs to do anything with it then some hacker takes all the credit for himself.

i don't think its weird to want to play something that doesn't require you to shoot things repeatedly once in a while. in fact many japanese games a VERY popular in western countries just not on the xbox.

now that you mention it that's kind of true, ps1 and ps2 were huge successes without a doubt and all things considering despite launching later the ps3 didn't do too bad either. GEN2 was by far my favourite though

@isarai true pirated games on the DS has been a thing for a long time. not sure about 3DS but i remember seeing a friends DS lite running pirated games. i think piracy hurts handhelds the most out of any platform i remember the original psp being absolutely destroyed by piracy
£50 is little too high i don't think i ever saw a game sold at that price (not including limited editions) with the exception of call of duty. COD is the only game i remember being sold above £40-£45 this gen i don't see how that will change going into next gen.
