I’d be happy if it took after isolation in every way with the exception of being 4-6 hours too long. There was a truly exceptional and perfectly paced game obscured by extraneous bits I assume because the developers were worried about poor publicity from releasing a 12 hour long game that was perfectly paced, so instead padded it out with annoying quests full of weird difficulty spikes and android shenanigans.

Didn’t know there was a quiet place game coming though, could be...

I think the Croc example from them was naive. I get their point that the sales were broadly similar, but gaming like in every other field sometimes has things which are successful and profitable at the time but are ultimately disposable. How often is the movie with the highest box office also the Oscar best film winner, and even how often is the best film Oscar winner actually the best movie.

Mario 64 was a weird game, and not one I really enjoy going back to, but I think ...

Interesting, not sure I agree it’s a Nintendo problem (though frankly there are some for who Miyamoto, genius as he is, passing wind should be awards worthy) but I think just like with movies and music there are some things which are essentially immune from real critique and revisional analysis. Nintendo because it is really the longest surviving big beast of the industry after Sega, Amiga, Atari and others have collapsed so does get treated differently to its now dead peers or later entrants...

There’s a lot of self fulfilling prophecy in that people who like to game don’t buy a Mac partly because there are few games so devs don’t make games for Mac because there’s a limited market of people wanting to buy them.

Doesn’t make it easy when the few games coming to Mac are not exactly day and date, it’s a hard sell to ask someone to wait 2 years (or 7 for RE7) for the Mac version when consoles or even a SteamDeck are so cheap and accessible

Maybe also worth pointing out that a game that came out 7 years ago on last gen consoles as well as getting next gen patches, Steam and also having been steeply discounted for many years and even given away free in PS plus collection; perhaps it’s a surprise that there were as many as 2000 people willing to pay a premium price for it on iOS .

I think it’s a proof of concept and maybe trying to build a catalogue. If Apple release an updated Apple TV box with a M1/A16 chip so...

Interesting, I would however add that I think part of the decline in interest in many recent stealth games, Assassin’s Creed as a prime example, has been that instead of the stealth play being the fun, it’s been RPG’d as a character choice akin to playing as a mage or a thief with all the same drawbacks and things which turns many players away (upgrade grinding, obscure overly complex skill and equipment upgrade trees). One thing about MGS, Splinter Cell, early Hitman and early Assassin's...

Anyone up for starting the fan fiction site of Crazy Taxi lore? Got some great ideas about Gus and Axel having a history as Gus served with Axels dad who died in the Vietnam war…

Seriously though, not everything needs to be multiplayer or an MMO. Crazy Taxis enduring appeal was that it’s a pure dumb jump in and jump out game, the gameplay loop itself was the appeal. Feels like having a desire to create a game of a particular genre and trying to shoehorn an ip into it withou...

Not on Steam, but realised I bought Everybodys Gone to the Rapture the day it was released 9 years ago and yesterday was the first time I loaded it to play (not bad so far).

Anyone able to beat a 9 year gap between buying and playing a game in their backlog?

I’m a PlayStation guy but I do appreciate the value that GamePass offers, but it doesn’t make financial sense to me for every new release to go on there, even Disney Plus charged an extra fee for people to watch Black Widow in the beginning before making it part of the subscription later on.

That said, the biggest barrier to any game subscription service being viable is that many of the most successful and most played games are free. A fairly large number of gamers don’t ...

The series S isn’t anywhere near as powerful, but it is very well priced, readily available and has I believe massively outsold the series x. Perhaps the biggest question is given Microsoft want people to join Gamepass as the recurring subscription is their main priority, does the expensive and under utilised series X make sense in 2024 when many players have shown they are price sensitive and happy with Series S / SteamDeck graphical features?

I never really got into the Lego games when they were in their pomp but this does look really charming and fun.

I’d settle for a new AAA campaign driven FPS with some sci fi elements in a new IP. Sonys first party stuff is good, but too many 3rd person open world adventure games with upgrading equipment and skill trees (Tsushima, Horizon, Spider-Man). Sadly hardly anyone is making AAA single player FPS anymore, even Doom and Wolfenstein seem to be dormant

I went back to the original PS4 game recently and it surprised me how dark and textureless some of the environments are compared to the newer games like The Quarry as my memory has all these games looking basically the same. To me the video does seem a solid visual upgrade, I wouldn’t spend £70 but if this was £30 with some new story elements akin to a Directors cut, I think I’d bite for a Halloween replay through

I think the difference is survival horror games don’t sell all the copies and become Call of Duty level profitable, but that doesn’t mean they are unsuccessful. A game like Outlast shows a responsible level of budget will lead to great success, spending more in development doesn’t necessarily lead to more sales. Alien Isolation was excellent for example, but I do wonder if it had been 4 hours shorter and the money required to develop the incredibly overly drawn out ending saved from the budge...

While rarely a good sign, if the business model is that you want people to sign up to a subscription rather than buy on launch day at full price / pre order; does it really make a difference if people sign up on launch day or a week before? Surely for them being able to say they had a x % spike in subscriptions on launch day is the best way of generating positive buzz and demonstrating the scale of appeal (or not) the game has

Gamers - There are no PS5 games, why won’t they announce stuff regardless of when it’s going to be released.

Also gamers - I hate when Sony announce games years before they’re finished and ready to be released. We don’t want cgi trailers.

That’s great to hear, but in an industry that not only prioritises but actively encourages people to pre-order months or even years ahead of release, it is frankly unacceptable any of these were released in such a poor state to begin with.

Industry can’t have it both ways, either incentivise day one purchasing but make games work properly at the start without over promising on what’s actually possible, or be honest that you’re releasing a glorified paid for beta build that ...

If we’re beating that drum, can we also stop forcing anyone who wants to play only the single player to download Warzone and all updates BEFORE they are then able to do another download from the menu of the single player campaign. I don’t see why I need 150gb of downloads in several ways to play the single player mode only from a bloomin disk which should have that campaign on it already.

I think that everyone was expecting for GTA6 to release this winter but was then subsequently pushed into the next financial year, but only after everyone cleared their release schedules thinking nothing they could release would compete against it. Even the third party releases look light this autumn / winter.

Loved the original ps1 games, and fondly remember liking Frontline and then playing Allie Assault on my cousins PC and being blown away by the massive improvements to the D-Day mission
